His congregation ... maybe Obama can lead the way on that.

So isn't this absolute proof that America isn't racist?

when will Charles Barkley get banned? It seems like he spews something racist a couple times a year with no consequences.

Lots of money in play with this story. We likely will never know the real truth. Doesn't mean he shouldn't have made the comments.

I had heard that there was some doubt as to whether the NBA had the authority to do this

The NBA's Constitution is confidential, but the language in which the NBA can force a sale all come down to the finances of the team.

A have no doubt a legal battle will follow.

Honesty I don't really know how it works. I was just making a point that he can own a basketball team, he just won't be allowed to participate in the NBA.

someone mentioned that in the other thread that Sterling broke two rules in the NBA guidelines.

Seem odd to ban someone and fine them.

I'm sure they could if they wanted. Hell, start a petition to get him banned. Worked against Rizzo.

Of course, if the people paying him don't want him banned because they like what he says them you probably won't get very far.

I hope you are just trolling and can see the difference between the two.

True...who knows his daughter could have leaked the tape to TMZ

She's definitely breaking his rules on instagram.

nvm misread I agree with you on that ... I'm sure the owners will force him out for the good of the league.

Well, obviously the NBA had this vetted by their lawyers before issuing this proclamation, but those of you equating this to a standard Franchise/franchisee or employer/employee deal may be a little quick on the draw.

I had heard that the NBA's rights in its arrangements with owners were not as strong as say MLB's arrangements with its owners. I personally do not know (and don't care too much either way), but I doubt it's as simple as the NBA can do whatever they want.

The guy is a piece of shite. He's done things way worse than this in the past that were actually illegal with little consequence. The things he said in the recording pale in comparison so it's funny that it's the private phone convo that takes him down. I guess it was just convenient timing. Regardless, my point is, it was just a matter of time before he was removed from the NBA. Just because this particular incident doesn't justify his removal for some some of you, it was still deserved.

It's like Mcdonalds. Piss off Ronald and they can strip you of your franchise. Sure, you can still sell hamburgers and fries you buy from SAMs, but you best not have any logos, or likeness to Mcdonalds.

So you think the congregation is being held against its will? They can all decide to leave if they don't agree with Wright. They aren't under a contract to his church.

That is a de facto way of banning him.

Sterling will have the last laugh. Bought Clippers for $12.5M and will sell for $500M. With that kind of dough, he doesn't give two fricks what other people think. Get over it.

This is what I find funny/sad commentary on our society today. From what I understand, the guy has done horrible things in his business life that while, perhaps not illegal, were certainly unethical, and yet this is the spark that set off an inferno. I think it speaks to the general level of ignorance in society and the way society is lead by an equally ignorant media that feeds off of short term memory, sound bites and emotions.

Oh what a glorious day! Hopefully this is the precedent we needed to tap the phone lines of all the rich people and people in positions of power in businesses and governments around the country so we can out these bigots and steal all their assets away from them through intimidation and figurative public executions.

So as long as people (and the media) go along with the hate speech, it's OK. Gotcha.

So who do you want to ban Wright? The congregation has the right, but doesn't want to. The board of directors, I assume, could but doesn't want to.

Do you want the media to ban him?
