Algiers was a nice middle to upper middle class mix both black and white until Katrina.

Algiers real estate is about $80-85/square foot these days, basically free. I have several family members on the mortgage/banking business, those are current figures, in the nice parts (Park Timbers, near Saint Andrew) and my parents and my grandmother have recently sold too.

That east side of Woodland was never the nice side, the west side of Woodland has always been nicer. I would be shocked if there are homes in that neighborhood that would sell at those prices.

that neighborhood is pretty well off, just looking at the houses for sale there and they range from 350K-475K

Maybe 10 years ago, for a relatively new house after Katrina and before 2008. That east side of Woodland was always the less desirable side of Woodland and became poorer and blacker as you moved east toward the "cutoff" neighborhood by the canal & Belle Chasse bridge.

You could buy a new house in English Turn for those prices, no one is paying that off Woodland Highway.

The only thing missing is Mitch, with his tie loosened and sleeves rolled up, saying the same stupid shite.

As much shite as I give Mitch and the city...at at a certain level what can they really do? There's a massive population of the city who are capable of nothing but crime and causing problems with the productive segment of society. Short of making everything possible for rapid gentrification, there's just not much you can do. Schools are a disaster, police are massively understaffed, etc.

He instituted a 3 year NOPD hiring ban in order to help prop up his family's private security business thus leaving the NOPD completely depleted. That's why he is solely responsible for the crime wave

The life expectancy of a pizza delivery guy in New Orleans has to be right down there with someone working in the bomb disposal unit.

I thought it was on the East side of Woodland, the original map on Nola.com had it next to Tennyson, and I saw these listing.

Every spare penny in NOLA ought to be going towards hiring hundreds of new officers.

But there are no spare pennies in N.O. Can't fix a friggin' pothole or keep the streetlights lit, but Mitch has time and money to spend on his signature legislation - offensive statue removal. The guy is an a-hole.

Mitch announced his new "crime plan" yesterday, including 200 new police cars. They ought to use that money to make NOPD more attractive to qualified cadets and let them drive, or ride in, the units they already have.

Police response times have improved, but are still abysmal. At least now, if NOPD ever shows up, they'll be in a shiny new ride.

---------------------------------------------------------------

You are correct about many shootings, some are seemingly unpreventable, at least in the short term. The Bourbon St. and Mardi Gras parade shootings have been commited practically right in front of uniformed cops. Some of these people just completely don't give a frick about laws and civilized society.

My beef with Mitch is that he frequently uses the shootings, especially if a child is involved, to mug for the cameras and spout off his same tired old worn out bullshite. It's unacceptable. It won't be tolerated. We won't stand for it. We're coming after you. Blah, blah, blah. Yada, yada, yada.

The man could not have had any more than $50 on him! So, killing pizza guys is a right of passage as a gang member? A successful drive by gives one street cred?
So senseless but so much about street life is senseless.

Not sure it was a robbery. Car driving by shot, and I hear eight times.

you could shoot a would be robber, kill him and get your life ruined by the black pastors and media for being a racist involved in an 'unjustified' shooting. You would be the new poster boy for the next BLM rally and have to move you and your entire family to a new city if you're lucky and the DA doesn't crumble under the political pressure to press charges and a jury of your peers doesn't convict you of murder1.
