Dolphins vs Porpoises in Louisiana

What do we have? Ive always been under the impression that we only had porpoises.... Can someone provide a credible link to support one way or the other? I.e. .edu or .gov

responses like this is why you should have posted the thread on the outdoor board.

Pretty sure they are porpoises. We have an albino one here that is pink due to the blood vessels, pretty cool.

They are bottlenose dolphins, mostly. There actually aren't that many porpoise species.

Porpoises, divided into six species, live in all oceans, mostly near the shore.

LINK

There aren't any porpoise species in the Gulf to my knowledge.

technically anything in the outdoors could go on the outdoor board. I'm not hunting or fishing for them... It's just a general debate. Quit being an a-hole and don't comment on a thread if you have nothing to offer

The common harbor porpoise has an abrupt snout, pointed teeth and a triangular thoracic fin. While the bottlenose dolphin, or Tursiops truncates, has an elongated beak, round cone shaped teeth and a serrated dorsal appendage. But I'm sure you already knew that. That's what turns me on about 'cha, your attention to detail.

re: Dolphins vs Porpoises in Louisiana
That link shows they are found on
quote:

The eastern seaboard of the United States
I know there are dolphins in the atlantic..... Just not sure ab the northern GOM

Eta: read that wrong

so we don't have porpoises at all? Or just another species?

I'll be dammed, that's what I get to listening to a coon-ass, there are no porpoises in the GOM..

The "porpoises" are actually called "common dolphins", they just look a little different than the bottlenose.

We were fishing in Grand Isle last year with a marine biologist, and she said what we see here are all porpoises.

Or maybe I have that backwards....
