Dog is sick after spending the weekend at camp/boarder

He is super exhausted, won't eat, and has the squirts. I was told sometimes that just happens after they have long, exhausting weekends. The place is basically dog heaven and they play all weekend with tons of dogs inside and outside.

I am trying to feed him a sweet potato and rice mush that he normally loves. It settles his stomach, but he won't even eat that.

Anyone have this happen to their dogs? FWIW he's 14 months old and has all his shots and weighs around 65 lbs.

Was this his 1st time being boarded? Stress can do this

He's got the shots for parvo and usually it doesn't attack healthy 1+ year old dogs like he is. That is my only fear. I am hoping its just a combo of stress/exhaustion/bug picked up at dog camp.

No, but its the longest (3 nights). He goes to the daycare once a week though for a half day (because we feel bad leaving him inside 5 days a week).

The place said this just happens, but I'm just a nervous parent.

Last time I had to board mine she had the squirts, was exhausted, and obviously hadn't eaten much for the past week. It stresses her out big time so I try not to have to do it to her.

when my lab goes out to the camp for the weekend, he is nearly dead by the time we get back home. He runs basically the entire time we are out there. I remember freaking out the first time it happened..I thought he ate something or a snake bit him

he probably didnt sleep the entire time. Some dogs can experience separation anxiety and this will cause them to be sick and not eat.

Stress like everyone else says, if his nose is cold its unlikely a bug, my dogs have done this on occasion, whether it be a road trip or a boarding stay. it is ne reason I use the same boarding place everytime by now they are kinda used to it.

No it doesn't. The dog would be vomiting with parvo. Quit trying to be cool.

I wouldn't worry. I would watch him closely for the next day or two. Give the dog some Immodium if it has the squirts. You can give them half of an Immodium tablet twice a day. Hopefully that will make the dog feel better and he will begin to eat.

Itll be fine as long as its still drinking and shitting.

When they quit drinking you have problems.

parvo is associated with a fever the dog would be hot to the touch especially his nose. Secondly you cannot board dogs without shots.

Feed little dude some plain cooked white rice till he starts to get normal

UPDATE:

He just ate a bowl of the rice/sweet potato mush. Very proud of my man.

And as I'm typing this he is drinking out of the toilet.

Crisis averted!

I wouldn't worry too much unless this lasts for a few more days.

Do you send his regular food with him to the boarder? Change in diet can cause wet movements.

As for being exhausted, that may simply be due to little sleep. You know how dogs act when they hear another dog barking? Imagine what its like in a room full of dogs....Throw in the possibility of one of them being female and in heat.

If he still not eating by Wednesday, you might want to take him to your vet.

Yogurt that has probiotics can help get the digestive system back in order. Pedialyte helps replenish salts and hydrates them. Some people recommend chicken broth, but this is often too salty.

Note: I am not a vet, but this is what they tell me to do everytime my elderly dog gets the runs from stress.

I think he will be fine. I just hate seeing him like this. He is walking around with his eyes shut. Looks like me before my coffee

I also mixed some probiotic kefir in there. That should help his digestion.

Thanks for the advice people.
