my dog just jumped in the bed and is breathing kind of awkwardly and not normal and shaking when doing so. anyone ever had this happen to their pet before? the vet doesn't open til 8 and i'm a little worried. it's like a really fast breathing and abnormal pant for a couple of breaths and shaking then pausing for a moment then doing it again.

eta: update, dog appears back to normal

Look around the house and see if it's gotten into anything that would make him sick. Check for any insect or snake bites, especially on the nose, face, and extremities.

There's a 24 hour emergency vet in BR LINK

Did you feed it anything out of the ordinary today? There are so many damn things that we eat on a regular basis that dogs cannot tolerate.

BTW, don't ever feed your dog fried onion rings. Cost me $250 and he pissed all over my lap.

not intentionally but may have gotten into something about to go look around

someone did eat some onion rings from sonic earlier today. I hope they threw it away if they didn't finish

he's now laying down on my leg. the breathing still appears to be heavy but not as bad and the shaking has stopped for the moment

I had a beagle years ago that had seizures periodically, he would exhibit simular symptoms. Vet put him on meds that helped limit the number and severity of the seizures.

How old is your dog? Overweight? Could it be a cardiac episode?
Could also be an epileptic seizure. We had a golden retriever who had those all her life. Great dog - got her as a puppy - she lived to be 16 yrs old. Good luck.

take your dog in immediately bro, its better for it to be nothing and cost you some $$. the other side of that coin isn't any fun.

We have a 6 year old Poodle that did that two months ago. Called the vet and they said it was a seizure and was common as dogs start to age. But I kind of knew it was a seizure the way his arms, legs and neck were sticking out stiff. Your dog should be doing that for about 20-30 second intervals if it is a seizure.
