Well, from his (current) mindset, he is justified in thinking so. Doesn't mean you should give a flying rat frick about it.

Every relationship serves some kind of purpose for both parties whether it be companionship, sex, financial, or otherwise. There is SOMETHING there that is being satisfied otherwise no one would have relationships.

The question is pretty silly really.

Exactly. He's too young to know exactly what the hell he wants at this point.

OP...just worry about your own relationship and let him worry about his.

A relationship is defined by the people in it and as such it can have all sorts of definitions. Marriage, progeny, legal status, taxes, not being alone, status symbol, etc. but most relationships define their purpose as being with and supporting the one they love.

Yes. By 19 most humans, though their brains not yet fully developed, are so set in their ways and philosophies and so experienced in life that they rarely experience significant changes.

He sounds like a brainwashed idiot. How hot is the girl?

About a real-life 8. She's more beautiful than she is sexy. Great smile and figure, but she's got a little gum action going on.

She's also a 'singer' as well. I heard her once before and thought her voice was mediocre at best.

It may last, but the odds are definitely not in his favor.

I'll admit that he's relatively mature for his age, but he is naive as hell.

I meant that it seems odd for him not to enjoy his youth and freedom (e.g. sew his wild oats). I would expect this sort of change to take place several years from now. Most 19-year-olds don't have a sudden change of heart and think, "Man, I've got to get my shite together."

I'm proud of your friend and his girlfriend. Props. Takes a lot to do that. Look what Tebow turns down. I'm a Christian, but I admit I was horrible at turning girls down.

I applaud this man for making changes. The change can last if he is making it for him and not for his relationship. I tried that once and it didn't work...

I finally changed for me and the change lasted and I met my wife and never looked back.

Lots of kids that age do that. Then they do it again every few years for the next 10 to 15 years or more.

True, and normally I wouldn't. But now the bastard is making me think that there is something inherently wrong in my manner of thinking.

I grew up in a very religious family and was heavily involved in Church.

I cringe when I hear the quote above.

It's like people who have this new found faith, become blind to everything else. Including being rational and logical.

It's ok if you want to be in a relationship because you enjoy the company, think the woman is physically attractive and want to spend time with her. You don't have to give some deep Biblical meaning to your relationship. God understands.
