Do you think Ants understand the interstate being built next to them?
A more modern idea would be that we know of dark matter from simple observation of how its existence distorts space time in areas where there isnt enough matter to explain the distortion.
Thats pretty much it and if you think about it, is pretty supernatural for the moment.
EDIT: Its really about perspective and understanding. A plasma TV or computer would be supernatural as can be 500 years ago and get you executed. Its not that they wouldnt follow every scientific law in the book today, but back then the understanding wasnt there.
The same could possibly be said today about ghosts, ESP, etc. They couldnt literally exist and be 100% explainable by natural laws but we just dont understand them yet.
The best thing you can do is keep an open and scientific mind about everything.
