The Viper, Dodge’s all-American exotic sports car launched nearly a quarter-century ago to much acclaim, will end production in 2017, according to details contained in Fiat Chrysler’s new contract with the UAW.

The viper is taking a hiatus just the the camaro did a few years ago. It'll be back.

Not surprising, but this makes me sad. It was one of my favorite cars as a kid. I'll own one one day.

Problem is that the Viper is at a price point that is saturated with better performing cars..

At 95-120ish we're talking Z06, GTR, 911 ,etc.. plus its a damn Dodge

So sad, it's an American automotive icon. Hopefully it's just a temporary break. I've been lusting after the Viper TA so much lately. Can't wait to see what the ACR will do.

Hasn't it been kicking all kinds of arse on the GT circuits?

The Viper while aesthetically pleasing, was a huge let down to drive for me. Maybe I was expecting too much, and to be fair have not driven the 5th gen only Gen 1-4. The Gen I and II was on par with a kitcar.

It was like dreaming of meeting my childhood hero only the learn he's a huge douchebag in person.

Plus Jag F Type, Mercedes GTS AMG, Audi R8. All of those, unlike the Viper, are available with some sort of automatic transmission. Manuals are great but if I'm a 70 year old dude who can afford a car like that I'd be shopping for the auto.

I'll pretend you didn't leave out the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe.

The F-Type 6 is available with a manual. The F-Type R is auto, with paddles or stick.

Do people really cross shop the F-type and a Viper? They really aren't the same type of cars in my opinion.

The Z06 is damn Chevy, the GTR is a damn Datsun, and the 911 is a damn Beetle.

I don't have a pic handy, but the 1996 blue Viper with white rally stripes was the best car of the 90's IMO.

I did say ETC...

While yes, those two are technically in the same category..It just doesn't feel the same when you think about it.. Jag just seems like an old guy car for showing off at the golf course..

I was just poking fun at the Dodge guys...

That being said..If i'm spending that kinda cheese on a performance car.. I'm looking at a GTR first ...Then 911..

Though the Z06 w/ C7.R package is also a damn fine car...

It's just something about exposed carbon fiber parts that excites me I guess

Exact opposite from me. I would have the Z06 and the Viper before the Porsche or Nissan.
