I definitely don’t regret it. It’s been great. So me things suck but overall it’s pretty good career.

You and I joined in the Ronald Reagan era...I joined in 81 two weeks out of high school. Field Artillery, Fort Sill. Only stayed 6yrs though...regret not staying in honestly. VA pays me a little for my hearing each month. I should revist that.

Don't regret joining, regret that I still have 2 years until I can retire. It's changed so much in the last two years, specifically since new administration that I'm ready to be out.

No. Did over 10, would've stayed in if I could.

I don't. It's been a great experience so far. Tempo is way too high, though. Benefits are incredible too

So basically everybody's saying that it's a great experience and they wouldn't change it, It's just the new SJW thing that they don't like.

But for a new high school grad, they have no frame of reference to the changed political landscape. Just like I'm sure that people who retired in the '90s would say that they loved their career in the military but wouldn't join because of all the "candy arse hippy shite" going on in the 90s.

I think the military (my experience is AF, but worked with all branches on deployments) is still a great way for a young person to gain life skills. For young troops, the SJW stuff is mostly briefings that 99% of folks ignore and a few emails. If doesn't have a major effect on most, unless the person wants it to.

I feel like publicly saying you regret joining the military is a bit like publicly saying you regret having kids. It would be honest, but you would probably be judged by whomever is being told.

bullshite. Of course, the mold doesn't fit all. I would never regret having my children. While I have certainly been personally happier (IE, my time in the military lol), there is nothing more rewarding than seeing them grow in the mold my wife and I have created while seeing their personalities/preferences come out.

Most Veterans don't give a frick about being judged, especially among a group of Veterans - unless one is stealing valor.

This thread is a recruiters wet dream.

95% of post have been candid and extremely grateful for the choice. Powerful testimony promoting the decision to serve.

I have enjoyed reading the different perspectives.

Active duty now. Been in 13 years, made chief, now selected as an officer. Don’t regret it although it’s definitely getting softer. Every time I’ve re-enlisted I thought I was going to get out, but at some point I decided that my whole goal was to be the type of leader I always wanted and try to make the Navy better than it would otherwise be for my people.

Nope. Medically retired at 10 years in. Sweet gig if you can get it.

@Wolfhound45, right there with you. In 1993, after a few years of LSU, I enlisted as an E2 in the LANG and went through Army ROTC. Now I am a COL, but with only 25 active service. There is no way I can make it past 30, let alone 40, I am struggling everyday with my body aches and the ringing in my ears from two deployments.

No regrets though. The Post 9/11 GI Bill is paying for son's college and I am currently the senior officer in my AOC, serving as consultant to TSG.

I regret not joining the military. I was set to enlist in the Air Force and backed out to pay for my own college. It was a struggle to pay for but I did it.

NOT joining the Military is what I call my life's greatest mistake and one that I regret daily... But it's too late to do anything about it now.

Thanks Marijuana...

Thanks to you guys that did serve.

Was briefly in LANG. Served with A Company, 2nd Battalion 156th Infantry in Breaux Bridge. This was back in the late 80s prior to heading off to college on an ROTC scholarship. Congrats on your service brother.

I was in the army barely long enough to fade out my first pair of BDU’s.

I think about it every day.

I wish that I would have joined the Air Force but I was an emotional mess just trying to get through HS. I believe that I would have had grown up a lot quicker had I enlisted in the military.
