I've heard of people doing it and putting in a bunch of safeties to keep you from remote starting in gear. I don't think I trust myself enough to use that though.

And mine won't start without the clutch pressed in, so I'm not sure how that would work. At least it won't when it is in 2WD. I think it will if it is in 4Lo.

They wire in a switch that you press that allows it to start with the clutch out. The ones I've seen require you to do a specific sequence of actions before getting out otherwise the remote won't work. Cool stuff, but still too much risk of my car jumping into the kitchen for my likes.

I do. But I drive a diesel. The flow of the oil makes the injectors work. If I don't warm it up first, it'll run rough until it does warm up.

It used to be tough on engines to crank with the ac on.

False

My M5 actually has rev lights on the tachometer that tick off as the engine warms up. Not supposed to shift above the beginning of the rev lights.

It's tougher than cranking it with the ac off. Tis a fact.

I leave my ac on all the time though.

Not to mention old r12 compressors were HP robbing monstrosities.

It was more a concern for the starter than anything.

But those old compressors could damned near cool a house...more than a few were made into camp AC units.

People who don't warm up diesels are fricking themselves.

I thought my 5 series had that too, and I actually thought the feature was broken. They informed me at the dealer that it didn't come with it. On mine it's a wheel that would track down to a specific rpm, then move up as it warmed. Again though, it's not even activated.

Maybe they are only activated on sports packages and the M5?

There's a douchebag at work that does this just to show off his remote start keychain as if it makes him that much more superior than the rest of us.

I think the feature was removed on the E60 LCI models.

I love people who do not warm up their diesel engines.

I must admit I know very little about car maintenance but a mechanic did tell me that, although, in the early 80s. He compared it to redlining your engine.

Takes about 30 minutes for mine to get to 180° with temperatures how they are(5 month old t-stats). Oil operating temps are 194-201. Takes 6 or 7hrs to cool back to ambient temperature

At almost $4/gal, no way am I letting it warm up for just running around town. If I am towing something I will. Otherwise, I just roll with it

When you turn your AC on max it nerely recirculates the interior air...nothing more. If ever it gets cold enough to freeze up, the small sensor in front of the cab fan will shut it down. No biggie.

GM alternator and compressors do sometimes have issues with high rpm use...but mainly the older units.

Some cars have a shut down for the AC comprrssor above a certain RPM. Mine deactivates the AC clutch at 5000 rpm or above.

Do you flip a coin when it is 31 - 39?
