Do you know anyone who can't read an analog clock?

This probably affects me more, as a teacher, but I've noticed this "skill" diminishing quickly. I had an analog clock hanging in my classroom for years. Around 5-6 years ago I noticed more and more students asking one of two questions:
"What time is it?" or
"What time it is?"
My response would be to simply point to the clock on the wall. The "I can't read that" responses from them (7th grade) got so frequent that I finally just took it down. Any shared experiences, especially from kids?

You sound like a terrible teacher who didn't want to do their job.

Most kids don't even wear watches anymore. They are all just using the digital clock on their phones.

I thought teachers taught people.
As a referee, next time a player doesn't know a rule of the game, I'll just wave off the game and send everyone home.

Thanks. We all are.

I remember that were taught how to read an analog clock when I was in elementary school. Maybe something like second grade, around the same time that we learned how to make change. Guess that isn't done anymore.

Most adults don't wear watches either. I'm one of the few in my age group who I see around who does.

So, when they don't, you stop the game and teach it to them?

We are really slipping downhill as a society.
ETA: Wait. You're a teacher and rather than teach your students to read a wall clock you took it down? Please find another line of work.

Sounds like you have a good demographic cross section there. No, I don't know any kids that can't read an analog clock. I do think you did them a disservice though by taking the clock down.

I have a friend in his 40's that can't tell time, and refuses to learn. I offered to teach him.
Nope.
Nope.

Both of my sisters (no pics). It's sad.
ETA: its not that they can't read them, it's that they have to actually think about it for 10-20 seconds.

So you are a teacher that has taken an analog clock down instead of taking a few minutes to teach your kids how to read it?

It is. OP is either lying or incredibly stupid for bragging about how terrible a teacher he is.

I teach 7th grade. As a previous poster said, this is something taught in lower elementary. Do you expect a high school math teacher to stop a lesson to teach his students to read? Please.
