Disillusioned about the current state of public education.
If it's as bad as you are saying it is, then the system has already failed. And, teachers/educators deserve every bit of criticism they get.
I doubt you are a bad teacher, but I've read 3 statements of yours that make you look like one:
* Removed the clock because too many couldn't read it
* Said "not my job" when someone suggested you actually teach the kids
* Fell back on how bad public schools as if you, as a teacher, are a victim of that

I would guess most millennials don't know how to read a clock or a book. Just a phone.

This probably affects me more, as a teacher, but I've noticed this "skill" diminishing quickly. I had an analog clock hanging in my classroom for years. Around 5-6 years ago I noticed more and more students asking one of two questions:
"What time is it?" or
"What time it is?"
My response would be to simply point to the clock on the wall. The "I can't read that" responses from them (7th grade) got so frequent that I finally just took it down. Any shared experiences, especially from kids?
Seems like, as a teacher, there was a good teaching moment to be had...yet, you seemingly failed them.

Would probably have gotten reprimanded for going away from curriculum.

What part didn't you get? Too complicated for you? Most don't. Most people use their phones to tell the time. Next time you find yourself outside of your mom's basement actually pay attention to how many people are wearing a watch.
Right now, in my office, I am one out of six people who is actually wearing a wrist watch.

Interesting. Everyone in my department except for me is wearing a watch right now, and the only reason I'm not wearing one is because I have a Fitbit that .... wait for it... doubles as a watch.
I see way more people with watches than without.

I will say I'm impressed that you haven't abandoned this thread. It almost makes me think you planned for it to go exactly like this.

I don't know him personally, but I feel safe saying Les Miles can't read an analog clock. I base this opinion on the fact he can't read a digital one.
