Not to sound snobby but the only resorts I eat at are deluxe resorts (and Swan & Dolphin) and as an early riser I am usually getting my coffee after my morning run about 6:30 am so I don't deal much with "them", but I do agree. It's not the resort or the staff at the values that is bad, it's the other guests.

Yep, one time staying at Pop Century, told the wife never staying at a value resort again... Since then stayed at moderates or deluxe resorts.. The people there are way better...

Stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge last New Years. We're going back at the end of Jaunary and staying at the AoA. Animal Kingdom Lodge was awesome, my three year old loved the animals right out side the balcony, but we were never in out room and it was pretty inconvenient to all the parks except AK. I'm a little nervous about staying in a value, but hopefully it'll be alright. My favorite place we ate at MK was Liberty Tree tavern. Be Our Guet was pretty cool. The food at Epcot, especially France was great. O'hana was the our favorite character breakfast. Planning on doing the Hoop Dee Doo review this time too.

Ohana is fantastic, but you have to make a reservation months in advance

Hire a Disney specific TA that gets a commission from Disney and doesn't cost you anything to book your ADRs for you. I can recommend a great one.

I know you said the kids might be too young for dinner shows, but Hoop de doo is really cool. I find it to be very kid friendly.

Cindy's Table is a good once in a long time experiencing. Would not do it every year, but you gotta do it at least once, especially when the kids are young.

I like Liberty Tree Tavern. Good, basic food.

I like Ohana. The food quality has gone down a bit, but the experience is nice. There is a lady who sings and teaches the kids to dance. I think it's the same lady every time, she's getting up there in age!

We've done Boma for breakfast.

Looks like you've hit a lot of the character dining.

Whenever we go to downtown disney I hit up Earl of Sandwich and then the ice cream place. Traditions for me.

Brown Derby is very good, but not very kid friendly.

Oh, and gotta have a Dole Whip.

We usually stay in Pop or All Star Music. This is because we spend very little time in the hotels. We are up early, on the bus by 730 at the latest, and stay until after fireworks. Only time we really spend in the resort is sleeping, and usually on the day we do Animal Kingdom we'll spend that night at the resort. Grab dinner and let the kids swim.

The more expensive places, yeah, better people, but again, we spend so little time in the hotels it's not worth the extra cost to me.

My wife and I are vacation club members. We always go for rope drop in morning and end up back at the hotel by 1 pm after lunch. We nap and hang out at the pool so its worth it to us to always stay at deluxe resorts our home resort is GF. We love it there but I enjoy staying at Beach Club more due to proximity to epcot and the pool. We also almost always end up going back and staying late at the parks after having an early dinner at one of the restaurants.

In downtown disney we usually go early and end up doing the early bird bowling at splitsville for like 25 bucks for an hour. They also have a killer lunch great sushi and delicious chicken wings.

I have to agree with one of the other posters who commented about most of the food at Disney being subpar. However, I have found a few exceptions:

1. Boat House @ Disney Springs
2. Mama Melrose
3. Wolf Gang Puck

Boat house was really good.

I haven't been to many places in Disney Springs but Disney is making that place a destination all in its own. I'm looking forward to trying this place.

Hoop de doo is fun and the food was good.
Ohana is really good too.
Teppan Edo (Hibachi) at Epcot was fun.

Mama Melrose was pretty decent Italian food.

Dinner at Be Our Guest was delicious.

We just got back from a 2 week visit. For anyone to say the food is crap, is seriously doing it wrong. Our stand outs were Citricos, California Grill, Yachtsman Steakhouse(steak coma), Tuto Italia, and Whispering Canyon. We were not impressed with the Brown Derby at all. We had 8AM breakfast at Be Our Guest 3 times. I suggest the Croque Madame. It was very good and the fresh fruit was nice and sweet. Getting shots like this were priceless IMO:

We got the Premium Package for the Food and Wine Festival and will never go with without it again. So much food and such great drinks! We had a whale of a time!
