If I had to guess, the money went back into the general fund. The state was footing the bill for coastal restoration projects while the settlement was being tended to (since BP had stopped making payments to the dedicated funds).

I live in horse country, not in the hills of Eastern Kentucky...

And you seem clueless as well...seems BP was giving the state governments on the coast extra money on top of the costal restoration you fricking doltLINK

Like I asked, where did that money go.

eta: I was wrong...BP gave the State of Louisiana 4.9 BILLION this OCTOBER...not $4 Billion.

Please - All you Baws know where that money went. It went in the fat cat's pockets.

So you give 4 Billion to the notoriously most crooked state in the union and you think it went to coastal restoration ha ha ha ha ha

That's the main problem, the people of La believe this shite

I believe that the funds are dedicated to coastal restoration/hurricane protection. That money better not get touched.

Yes, and the money doesn't all get paid at once either I'm pretty sure. I think it's stretched over a number of years, although I can't remember exactly how many right now. Maybe 10?

Once again, JBE's crisis solution was to utilize BP money, raise taxes $500MM, cut TOPS, and only cut spending $120MM.

It was basically, "Tell me who has money, and then give it to me"

Why is there so much misinformation in a thread like this?

Well, help me understand.

Way I read it...this past October, BP settled with the States on the Gulf by giving them an extra $4.9 on top of the money they gave for costal restoration...and another $600 million for future problems/litigations.

BP has given a lot more than 4b to the state.

BP also agreed to pay $4.9 billion to settle economic claims by the states. An additional $1 billion will be paid to the local governments and entities.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a lump sum payment. It's not like BP just handed over a check for 4.9 billion a few months ago.

Understand your point but the gulf coast had plenty of tar balls before the spill

Just read $500 million/year for next 15 years. Majority going towards costal erosion restoration.

Hopefully a big chunk will go towards the Coastal Master Plan.

This state wastes a ton of money on coastal restoration.

Back in the 70s we got $500 million + from the 8G settlement to be dedicated to education.
In the 80s, they started the lottery with proceeds going to education.
Now the BP settlement...

The problem we have in Louisiana is crooked incompetent politicians who waste the states money. I've known a lot of them and most make me sick when I hear how they operate.
Unfortunately, the stupid people vote them in so I guess we get what we get.
Isn't it funny that probably the governor that did the least harm was Mike Foster, who spent most of his time as governor going to law school, duck hunting and taking helicopter flying lessons !!!!!!
