Please ignore the text in the article, I'm only linking it because of the pictures.

Of course, according to most up there, this is all happening because of the Governor and the emergency manager up there. It has nothing to do with the years and years of city mismanagement prior to the state takeover...

Sad. And while there's a lot of mismanagement there, I do wonder how much of the school could be cleaned up and fixed up if a few adult teachers organized a student group to take it on. Obviously stuff like plumbing would require professionals, but I think it wouldn't be too hard to scrub black mold or mushrooms off the walls.

Would be a valuable learning opportunity that you can't rely on the government to fix everything for you.

If that is what most of the schools look like, then that is horrible. No child should have to go into a place like that which should be condemned. It's sad that the local "leaders" let it get to such a state.

From what I've read, all anybody wants to do up there is blame, blame, blame. It is as if nobody wants to actually fix the problem, they just want to blame and punish somebody for said problem.

Yeah, I'm sure the mold is why their schools are ineffective and essentially daycare for future criminals.

I'll get flamed, but that's what years of unchecked Democrat rule will get you.

Well, they strike when the BOE tries to consolidate schools. There is no money to make the facilities run properly, or a proper tax base to fund the school. Claiming racism doesn't produce money.

Just curious who here is going to flame you? I would say you hold the majority opinion on this board.

Are they members of the union so that their labor would not violate any union contracts?

Wow. How can anyone be expected to teach and learn in that environment? How depressing.

The worst part is that's probably an upgrade from what their homes look like for many of the kids.

Many kids never really have a chance. This doesn't mean they aren't fully responsible for their actions later in adult life, but many of them truly never have any sort of chance to do anything worthwhile.

That's not how America works today. The Govt is in charge of everything, and ordinary community citizens just sit back and collect a check.
