I think I am getting old. I actually pay attention to the comments others make and find myself thinking "I don't understand why people have to make comments like this" then I realize its the OT.

But its really all in the way you do it. No one should go around and work it in every conversation they have "oh yeah I give to _________", but if its a situation when there is an opportunity to seek out others to give then its cool if someone says "I don't usually advertise this, but I give ____________ and it would be helpful if others will do so".
Agreed. It's all in the motive. If you are just bragging about it to give yourself a pat on the back and to make yourself look better...yeah then just keep quiet. But if you are genuinely passionate about a certain cause and want others to contribute as well...there is a way to do that and not come off as bragging.

, a guy (40 to 50ish) asked me "Why do you waste your money on buying firefighters anything man?" To which I replied "Your kidding right? I always do this." Then before he walked off he commented "Man, whatever dude, them guys don't need anything."
Things that didn't happen for 500 please

Most fire fighters I know aren't exactly hurting for money or food. Most don't make considerably well, but OT is usually available or they can teach CPR/AED training classes on the side -- which can bring you in quite a haul. Depending on the zone, it can be a pretty gravy job.

You too...what do you do? What gives you the right to have an opinion on people helping our first responders? Do you get up every day and put your life on the line? Let's hear it...I am sick of you do nothings who just live to bash and down vote those who do try to make things better....useless pricks.

more concerned as to why they take a crew of four in a fire truck that probably costs close to a mil and probably a few thou per hour to operate to the grocery store ten blocks away when they could send two guys(I even grocery shop by myself!) in one of their 4-5 suburbans
They do it so they can respond to a call if need be.

Yesterday me and my half black/ half Muslim transgendered parter were buying lunch for the local constables and the cishet shite Lord working at the whole foods called me a fig for supporting the police. I told xim to mind xhis own business.
How do some people grow up so closed minded?

Holy shite y'all are a bunch losers in this thread. I bet most of you have never done shite living in your moms basement playing WoW in between your sophomore year classes at BRCC.

Working overtime is like having a second job since your primary job does not pay enough to feed you.
So you are saying not to help firefighters because they can get second jobs?

I appreciate what fireman do but a lot of these people are looking for a pat on the back. I know some volunteers that think they are on the same level as policeman. They constantly FB how tough it is...which I'm sure it is....but you're a volunteer, quit if you don't like it and you're not on the same level as a policeman/woman

They don't realize firefighters do not make much money at all.
I honestly didn't know this. In my hometown one of my firends' dad was a firefighter and he made more than 75K a year.
Granted, I grew up in an all-white suburb where the average family income was likely above average of most places, but I always just figured that firefighters made a solid income.

Call me in denial but I refuse to believe this. I think its a perception many people have, but what are you comparing it to? I remember when I was a teenager and would here people say "teenagers today are terrible".
If we did the stuff we did then today, we would be in jail. When there was a fight at school, it was just a fight at school. Depending on the situation someone would get suspended, many times 10 mins after the fight the two people were friends again.. No big deal. Today if someone fights they are immediately a criminal.
A lot less is tolerated today. Which I don't know if that means its better or not, but it seems like overall, kids are are more aware and understanding today.
