Great attitude.. Because there might never be a day when one will put his or her life on the line for you are a loved one right?

Are you willing to work a low paying job that has a good chance of putting you in situations that could possibly put your life in harms way?

I don't think society is getting anything but better.

Sorry all you guys seem to hate life on this board.

Not angry just decided to start calling it like it is. There are a bunch of leeches on this board who don'the know what real sacrifice is, but sure know how to make light of those who try to make the world a better place. They are what is wrong with society. I just call it like I see it and when they get a dose of their own ignorance they magically have nothing more to say.

Every other weekend, me and my b/f buy our local fire station groceries. And luck happen the guys happen to be at the store this morning buying a few odds and ends themselves. Anyway, after I gave em all the stuff I got for them, a guy (40 to 50ish) asked me "Why do you waste your money on buying firefighters anything man?" To which I replied "Your kidding right? I always do this."

I worked EMS out of a fire station. If someone brought groceries we would have told them to take it the food bank or something.

Easy there, Turk 182. Four brief points:

1. If fire fighters have to buy their own food, and their income is funded through taxes, it is not inaccurate to says that taxes are paying for their food.

2. An AED in squad cars will save more lives than buying dinner for fire fighters. If you are going to throw money at public causes beyond your taxes, this is a way to have a greater impact.

3. You are not calling like it is. You lack the moral and actual authority to demand the occupation of other posters. You're not the only one who is or knows a fire fighter. So, stick your holier than thou attitude up your fire hole.

4. Your posts were able to attract the public employee pension argument, thereby casting this thread into the rabbit hole of poli board discourse.

Nice work, Turk 182!

If you have never been on the the front lines as a first responder, and you don't understand the sacrifice, shut your own fricking fire hole. You don't have the credentials to have an opinion.....especially after the last 7 days here in BR.

Hey Turk 182, don't get so worked up!

Can you tell me how buying food for fireman tops putting an AED in squad cars? You seem to want to focus on anyone having an opinion about feeding public employees, and who is allowed an opinion. The fact is we are all allowed an opinion.

I am empathetic to the police and first responders in BR and elsewhere. The last thing they need is an angry advocate like you. If you are one of them, then get help. Police and fire departments have counseling programs.

Firefighters get paid a decent salary . But a nice gesture nonetheless . And I believe they get money to buy food anyway .

Unless it is in some Podunk city or town .

My wife and I buy food every Sunday and take it to local hospitals to give to the doctors on call. We will occasionally bring stuff in for nurses and hit fire houses if Dollar General or Big Lots has some deals. We have a sliding scale based on lives saved. Doctors at the top, so they get the most visits and highest quality food..nurses next and then fire fighters. It's the fairest way to do it and it makes us feel great when we get to tell people about it.

Prob depends on the station. Usually only headquarters have extra vehicles. Substations you are stuck with just emergency vehicle, therefore, that's your only choice.

No clue how you got all the downvotes. I'm a fireman, we buy are own food, even coffee, everything. I know firemen from many other departments and they are the same way also. Absolutely mind boggling people think the city buys our food.

at the buy an AED comments. 90% of at least medium size city departments already keep those in all the vehicles. How many AEDs do y'all want in each their vehicles?
