We’ve been with Cox Cable since around 1976 and get some nice legacy deals. Still pay out the wazoo but don’t care. Easy to use, connect to, no dropouts, picture quality and offers everything we want and now it works seamlessly with Netflix. I am retired but still quite tech savvy and the awkwardness of pure streaming is not for us.

Just did this in december. Love it! Got hulu for $1.99/mo (black friday special), netflix, and disney + for kids. Also got firestick to control (and have amazon prime to watch movies on, imbd free movies too). Still saving over $100/mo and have more things to watch than can handle, not to mention no more maxed out dvr or satellite problems. I had no problems with directv and would go back if was cheaper than current, but they just cant compete

Dropped DIRECTV for Youtubetv
No regrets
Love it
Saving $150/ month

Bought a Samsung QLED TV that has youtubetv on it, don’t even need an Appletv box to make it work

Seamless transition

I cut the cord a few years ago. I usually pick up a TV streaming service during college football season and cancel later

Had directv for 17 years
Called to cancel and they didn’t even try to turn me over to the retention dept
Just took the cancellation order and bounced

40 years must be the magic number. I’ve been with Cox for 10 years and when I called to explain that my bill kept getting higher and higher to where I wasn’t getting the value anymore, they refused to do much of anything.

Unplugged all my boxes, cables, modem and threw them in a tote and drove to the Cox store. Guy at the counter asked if I was moving, I politely explained I could pay $115 by streaming and getting internet from another provider vs $250 bundling with Cox for the exact same service. He immediately asked if he could talk to his manager and see if they could match or come close. That’s the epitome of why I hate cable providers.

HDTV antenna.

I built one a few years ago when Fox wasn’t supposedly going to be on the Directv lineup.
Picked up 7 crystal clear channels with it just leaned against the house.
I imagine with some tweaking I could pick up a few more. FCC says 27 free channels within 60 miles of me.

I'd love to drop DTV and the $160/month bill that goes with it. There's practically the same thing on every channel and they compress the hell out of it even on the HD channels and it's noticeable even on an old 720p TV.

My wife won't have it. She likes to just turn it on and not have to deal with it.\

I know two people that dropped Xfinity cable and only use their data services.

One of them subsribed to youtube tv and it's less than reliable; making through at least 30mins w/o buffering and dropouts doesn't happen. Another has Hulu and Prime and those seem to be okay.

Only thing I don't like about the streaming services(all of them, so this isn't specific to YouTubeTV) is there isn't a channel number you can just punch in to get to a certain station. So you have to scroll the channel grid to get to the channel you want. There are filters you can use to shorten the grid, and making a favorites list can help, but still not as easy as just punching in the channel number.

I don't miss at all my DirecTV signal going out in heavy rain or storms.

I switched from DTV to YouTube TV before football season. No regrets at all.

I cancelled Directv a few weeks ago; they didn't even bother sending me to the retention department.

They then called me everyday but I ignored it as I had my mind made up to pay only $50/month with Youtube TV. I finally picked up last week to tell them that, so they offered me my current package (was paying $145/month) for $50/month for the next year plus a $200 Visa giftcard as a thank you for staying.

So I guess I still have Directv for another year, but will be ready to cancel again as soon as the year is up...

Dropped AT&T-Landline, Dish-TV Subscription, and Local Internet from an antenna tower.
Local Power Company installed Fiber County wide.
Got Fiber, Internet, Ooma Phone, Roku and Youtube TV.
In addition I installed a HD TV antenna in the attic.
I pick up numerous local stations within in about a 75 Mi radius.
I've got more sports and a better variety of other programs at about half the price.

I have one.

My problem is internet service. Only service is ATT and it got to the point it would knock you off half the time. Real slow too.

So, I used my phone with my personal hot spot. I have unlimit on that.

Learned something recently:
I too only got offered about a $10 reduction on my cable bill when I called Cox initially. When I took all their internet equipment back and told them I wanted to cancel both my cable and internet, that’s when the guy wanted to bring his manager over.
Apparently, cable margins for cable companies are very thin. They make their highest margins on internet, especially hi speed. If you tell your provider to drop cable because you are moving to streaming, they can try to convince you that you need higher speed and can also jack your internet bill higher because you aren’t coupling services anymore.

If you ever wondered why it doesn’t seem like these companies really care if you drop cable anymore

DirecTV is going away. They are losing so many customers since POS AT&T took over that they have decided to get out of the business.

HAVE you seen any DirecTV commercials lately? NOPE, they are in the process of checking out.

I left last October. I went with YoutubeTV but had to have channels that YTTV doesn't carry like History, Science, Destination, A&E, VICE, DIY, Paramount, Comedy, etc, etc.

So I wound up with Xfinity internet ($29.99), YouTube ($50), Philo ($20), and Pluto which is free. I also have a Roku which has all kinds of free movies & TV shows on their channel, and has free weather and news channels, etc.

You don't need a contract for these services and can cancel at anytime.

Here is a spreadsheet I put together when I switched. I have updated it as each service has added channels.

The channels in yellow are the ones I lost. Weather does not affect my TV viewing anymore.
