Thank you for your opinion but I disagree.

How long did it take you to learn cursive? I think it was about a one hour class for half of second grade for the school I went to. Not exactly a huge waste of time to learn a skill that provides you with the key to correspondence with countless people who still use it.

It may have taken only six months to learn but I remember receiving a worthless "handwriting" grade all the way through eighth grade.

Not even close to comparable. We aren't talking about a machine that does cursive for us. We are talking about an expression of writing, not writing itself. It's more akin to saying that students should learn how to work math problem on touchscreen tablets instead of looseleaf.

I used to do that. My kids found some of my old graduate school notes, and lines would be half cursive, half printed. They found it funny. I guess it depended on how fast the teacher was talking.

My handwriting is almost creepy. I've always wanted to have it analyzed. I'll even write print letters differently. Especially an uppercase A. <----sometimes written like this, sometimes more of a hump, and then sometimes cursive.

Fun fact: knowing how to write in cursive has nothing to do with poor grammar skills.

Another great reason for cursive to die. It's extremely difficult to read.

Same here. My penmanship has been bipolar as long as I can remember. My grade school journals would rotate from script to print page by page. Now it's a warped script/cursive crossbreed that's barely legible. My mom has the most beautiful script handwriting though, always been jelly of that.

I agree that it's probably pointless to teach. That time could def be spent better elsewhere. That doesn't mean parents can't teach their kids. God forbid parents actually teach their kids something. I know that's a completely novel idea.

I quite writing in cursive once I got to college. I could no longer read my notes.

If you ever take the GRE, they make you copy in cursive the academic integrity policy. Lord, that was almost more difficult than the actual exam.

I can still do it if I had a gun to my head, but it looks just as stupid as it did when I was being made to do it back in 5th grade.

So did I. I wrote in cursive for many years.

stopped writing in cursive when I found I could print faster, and more legibly.

I am. And I handled insurance fraud cases for a few years. Writing sample "experts" lack a lot of credibility and are hard to build a case with. Most fraud is exposed through either eyewitness accounts or patterns of behavior. The two signature fraud cases I won were due to patterns of behavior.

Smart enough to know cursive is a dying practice.

I don't think anyone here has argued that parents should be forbidden from teaching their kids cursive.

Me too, but its slow as hell. I have my nice print, and my chickenscratch note print I learned in college. I just never used cursive once I got into high school, and none of my teachers made me.
