Councilwoman wants chief to talk about cops involved in Alton Sterling's death

Councilwoman Donna Collins-Lewis told WBRZ Thursday, she has filed three pieces of city legislation. Two deal with the Sterling situation and a third deals with how people were removed from a recent council meeting when they wanted to speak about the Sterling case. Collins-Lewis said the item related to the police chief will ask the chief to attend the June 14th meeting to discuss the investigation into officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake. Late Wednesday, the mayor of Baton Rouge suggested the chief fire Salamoni for not following department procedures the night Sterling was killed.

Collins-Lewis said she is also frustrated with how citizens were handled at a meeting where activists planned to disrupt the council meeting but were escorted out. To investigate how meeting procedures are handled, Collins-Lewis wants to form a committee to review the city's plan of government. Collins-Lewis said she could base her committee on a similar one formed in 2007.

Yeah, let's introduce legislation to make sure people can interrupt council meetings and talk about whatever they want at any time. Sounds wonderful.

Why do these council women think they need to ask the chief questions about this case? Just read the DOJ report.

Let's keep stirring the SJW pot, and never let it go. Perfect example of why they don't want to bring the races together.

Why doesn't she try to pass an ordinance that requires council members to take an IQ test and meet certain threshold requirements. These stupid council people are damaging the city.

BR can't catch a break. These fools are gonna keep this shite going as long as they can.

The council members pushing all this may survive but the Mayor has basically put herself in an extremely difficult position moving forward with her potential reelection.. she has declared war on any talk of unification and has deepened the divide.. she will face a mountain of money and quality candidates in just a few years and I can't wait for her melting under the scrutiny.. frick her and her divisive message

I abhor politics and have no association of any kind with Baton Rouge (except I love LSU sports). But, this is a trio to political tripe. How did such an incompetent, someone so unschooled on the legislative process, get elected to the City Council?

Chief now has an opportunity to present his case for more support from the city council and the mayor. Pull all officers from security for the next council meeting, zero police presence. Any surviving council members will be very happy to see cops very soon thereafter.

I hope he shows up and says, "Sorry, but department policy prohibits me from commenting on an ongoing investigation."

Similar to the one in 2007
I bet they didn't accomplish anything then either

The letter demands the "immediate termination" of Officer Blane Salamoni from the police department. The demand stems from the family's meeting with the Department of Justice where the family was informed that Officer Salamoni "walked up to a non-confrontational Alton Sterling and put his department-issued firearm to the side of Mr. Sterling's head and stated, 'B***h, I will shoot you in your mother f***ing head,' the letter notes. The document further suggests that such behavior is rumored to be "common."

Was this in the official report from the Feds or just coming from the family?
