Are you dealing with an addiction? If you can get that handled things will change drastically.

Sorry that you are in a rough spot in life. Everyone has them.

Take an honest look at your life and eliminate everything (and everyone) that is not helping you to achieve your goals…..permanently. No exceptions.

One of my favorite sayings applies here: When you are going through hell…keep going!

Don’t give up on counseling, try a different therapist until you find one that works for you. Try exercising. Do whatever hobby makes you happy, fishing, hunting, anything. Just keep yourself busy. Things will get better.

This and this and this!!

I loveeee my therapist. She's a perfect fit for me, but it takes trying a few before you pick the right one!

Exercise & walking are key to a good mood. Hobbies are good for creating small challenges that you can overcome/better yourself, while providing a worthwhile distraction.

Sorry to hear this.
I obviously don’t know you, but I do know that every life has a purpose. You are here for a reason and people care for you.
Keep the faith and accomplish just one positive thing every day. You will turn this around with faith and attitude.

Have no idea your situation, but I always feel that a different mindset helps when you feel pressured. I have been rock bottom before and eventually just say. "Okay, lets see what can be done. It could be worse, I could be a homeless person in los angeles or starving in africa."

Then of course realized that they are always fallback programs like food stamps, etc etc, if you are suffering from lack of materials. There is always a program to temporarily help you on your feet.

This is just general. Depending on your situations you might require different solution, but if it is materials, there is always a program.

I know this sounds harsh, but you’re a white male, nobody GAF about your problems. Take care of yourself, get in the gym and your self esteem will improve.

well said lsugorilla!

Sleep is sooooo important as well. Alcohol in successive nights can hinder quality sleep. If you need to take a unisom early instead of drinking (if you are doing that), you'll pass out the same but feel a million times better in the morning.

Keep your head up. If you're feeling down, try going on a walk. That's the one thing I started doing since COVID and I feel a lot better moving around, meeting new people, and even just giving a friendly nod to someone passing by. Try going early morning, middle of the day, and sunset times just to get out of the house or as a break from work

Phillipians 4:8 teaches us how to redirect our thinking. In today’s world there is so much negativity that it’s easy to get caught up in routinely thinking negative thoughts. Think on good things, positive things and let the joy that comes with it overwhelm you. Whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are of a good report, think on these things. There are plenty of good people here that will encourage you and pray for you. Those that come to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him. God bless.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Give counseling another try.

Look up “psychotherapy” and find one near you. They will dig deeper into your brain and help. A counselor will say shite like get sunlight and exercise, think positively. Well, no shite.

ETA: a therapist is like a girlfriend. You need to find one who you like. They are out there.

7 years ago there was no logical path for me to have a decent life again. I was ruined in all facets of the game of life.

Lots of difficult, stressful, and dark days but I’m happier and more content today than I’ve ever been in my life.

Cats gone wild, keep your head down and just try to make tomorrow a productive day. This WILL get better. It may. It be this week or month, but things will turn around and you can be happy again. Gotta make it through today and tomorrow though. Remind yourself of that.

Make your bed every morning and stay out of it until you’re ready to sleep. Put the cell phone away. Don’t make self destructive decisions that make your current life worse.

CatsGoneWild,

I’ll be praying for you, my brother. Not sure what you’re going through but just want you to know someone is thinking of you and praying the best for you. Hold on to your faith and believe God will deliver you from whatever it is that is pulling you down. He created you for a purpose and He loves you. Whatever youre dealing with, He wants better for you. Things will improve, they will get better.

Talk to someone, a therapist, a priest, etc. if you are catholic, embrace the sacraments- confession, mass, Eucharist and spend time talking to Jesus like he was sitting in the passenger seat of your car right next to you.

On the advice side, I highly recommend the Bible in a Year podcast by Ascension press (Fr. Mike Schmidtz)… extremely enlightening and a good reminder that we deal with the same issues God’s people lived through thousands of years ago. 20-30 minutes/day… great for the morning commute to work.

Keep your chin up!

Do you exercise?

If not, start either running or lifting heavy. EVERYDAY FOR ONE WEEK! Get 7 days straight. You get 7 days in and then it’s a routine and you are good to go. Keep doing it no matter what. Exercise burns stress and cures depression.

Either that or join a Jiu-Jitsu class. I’ve seen amazing transformations in people doing Jiu-Jitsu. Bury yourself in it. There’s so much you can get out of it. I do Jiu-Jitsu and it’s helps me with dealing with all the bullshite that comes with life. It’s such a great group of people. I’m not even that good at it. I mean get my arse handed to me on a regular basis and I feel so great after I leave there. Like nothing life throws at me can make me angry or get me down after an hour of Jiu-Jitsu

Added after reading thread: Exercise is one of the most listed things in here for a reason.

I know how you feel.

But today was wonderful. I cut my grass. Got some Sun.

Had the opportunity and privilege to help one of my fellow humans who appreciates it.

Eating cooked down onions, bell peppers , garlic and a pound of shrimp tails over rice. Lots of rice.

I really feel your pain. Been there.

Seize the simple pleasures when you can. They are all over the place.

For you and everyone feeling the same way-

Tell one person you trust, even halfway, in your real life, how you feel.

Maybe no one knows how you feel.

People need to know.

Please. Ask for help. Reach out. Let at least one person in your circle know.

I don't mean to pry but I have to. I need more info.

Maybe I can help. I'm 74 with lots of experiences. I have, amongst other things, anxiety & depression. I see a psychologist and take medication. I am a monoplegic and live with a constant pain that can't be controlled with anything that will let me drive. I was a fireman. I have a bit of ptsd although I don't like to call it that. I save it for my military people. Which brings me to my military years. U.S. Army infantry. Give me some details to work with.
