Anyone know how much to expect from having an oak tree removed from my yard and do you know someone reliable in the Alexandria/Pineville area? TIA

Last time I priced one out near Lafayette the guy told me it was a 500$ minimum. That covered cutting it down, removal, and grinding of the stump.

Depending on where it's at on your property, the parish might pay to have it removed.

Get several estimates. Tree guys often just throw random dollar amounts out to see if customers will bite.
Find a tree guy short on beer money, and you'll get the job much cheaper.

no way to answer this without more information like size and location.

I'm about to pay 2,500 to take out an oak in my yard

We were quoted $1000 for a 70-80' pine tree. that included removal and stump grinding.

Well, its close enough to fall on my house if it does fall. Not a big enough yard for them to lay it down without taking about half of it off (I rould think) I'd say it's about 50 to 60 feet high. Damn home owners won't cover it, damn bastards

The cost will depend on whether it can be cut and dropped in one pc. Or will it have to be climbed and taken down pc. by pc. I spent close to 4k to have trees removed after Katrina. Good luck.

And that's if they don't have to top it first using a crane.

Then they sell if for firewood for another $2500 after they haul it off. Shits a racket!

I'm in your area and owned one of the local companies until recently.

is a good estimate, but no way to know without looking at the tree. Call three and get quotes.
BDC, TreeCo, and Green Jeans are all reputable companies in our area.

Ive used Broussard's as well. I thought they were all ridiculously prices, but I wasn't going to take down a +60ft water oak myself

I saw your comment above about it being a racket. I promise you it's not. Workmens comp and insurance will eat your lunch, not to mention equipment and repairs.

Make sure that whoever you use is bonded, licensed, insured, etc.

A relative in another state used the cheapest guy who was none of the above. She is an elderly lady and didn't think to ask these things. He fell and died in her backyard!

We are hoping the family doesn't sue.

I guess so, but damn, $4000 to cut a tree down next to the house (with crane) just seems crazy.
