Kind of hippyish

So, just like the rest of Asheville?

The wife and I stayed at the Days' Inn by the mall... it was ridiculously cheap and an easy bus/cab/uber ride downtown. We were doing a lot of beer drinking so wanted to be close to all the breweries.

Loved Asheville as a whole, despite the hippiness.

Indigo is always nice but If you want to save a few bucks book a room at the Downtown Asheville Inn. it's in the heart of downtown and walking distance to restaurants, breweries ect.

It looks like a dump. What are your thoughts on it?

You get what you pay for but the location you can't beat. The beds were not horrible either, but yea, exterior looks like a motel 6. I think it came out to a little under $150 a night. The Indigo will prob run you about $300 that time of year.

I've heard great things about the Grove Park Inn. How is the location? I'm guessing it's not walking distance to the downtown area, but is it at least close?
It's a little outside of downtown (5 min drive) in a nice residential area. The views from the Inn are great views of downtown and mountains. Along with a huge lobby it has a large back terrace that is open to the public.

Depends on the amount you want to spend. For some of these nicer hotels, you will pay. You can also get sweet cabins in the mts for multiple days for the same price if not cheaper. BTW...Sierra Nevada brewery is incredible. Also right out of downtown asheville hit up highland brewery.

Second Sierra Nevada brewery. It's amazing and the brew pub menu (food) is awesome.

Also check out Wicked Weed. Restaurant upstairs, beer garden/patio bar downstairs. I had a Belgian IPA down there that instantly became my favorite beer ever.. And I'm not even a huge fan of IPA's.

Don't go to Sierra Nevada without first prioritizing the local breweries.

I stayed at the Grove Park Inn two years ago and wasn't impressed. I know it's an old, historical hotel, but the rooms were really dingy (moldy tiles, water stained wood trim, and a lot of dust in the corners). Also the restaurant wasn't good- my party ordered four steaks and had to send everyone back TWICE due to being overcooked.

I won't be staying there again.

While you're there, a day to check out Maggie Valley would be something to think about. Not too far, and a beautiful area.

We are staying in a Cabin about 20-30 minutes outside of Asheville and the rates are about $150/night plus cleaning fees.

Which local breweries do I need to check out? We'll have two days of just bouncing around. Going to Biltmore one day and Rafting another.

Haywood Hotel right in downtown is nice. Grove Park is a couple of miles from downtown so quite a little walk. Wicked Weed, Highland Brewery, Ben's Tune Up and Hi Wire Brewery are all cool. Sierra Nevada is huge and pretty expensive but definitely worth seeing. New Belgium is building their new brewery down on the French Broad in West Asheville but I don't think it will be opened until spring. Wedge Brewing in West Asheville is also a fun place. Catawba Brewery is also very cool. Right next to Green Man in the South Slope area of downtown.

I just moved to NC a few months ago but here is my list so far:

-Highland
-Wicked weed
-Thirsty Monk...was there this past Friday and they brew a couple beers that they change up all the time. Great 2 story bar that serves other beers not just their own.
-Green Man
-Lexington Avenue-great beers and good food
-Sierra Nevada-heard the place is awesome...haven't been yet
-One World-cool set-up in a downtown basement but I personally didn't like any of their beers but I'd give it another shot

We stayed at Four Points (starwood hotel) just on the edge of downtown. It was much cheaper than aloft and indigo and still within walking distance of most of the downtown area. Very clean and excellent staff. The front desk gave us some recommendations on where to eat and what to do and the bartender helped us figure out which breweries to visit, we didn't stay long enough to hit them all. He even took it as a personal challenge to find my wife a beer that she would enjoy, she's not much of a beer drinker. When we go back this spring that's where we will stay.

P.S. Biltmore is a no Brainer if you can afford it. I'm just not an OT baller.
