If you're into the music scene check out the Orange Peel - it's located within walking distance of the downtown hotels.

A: Check out the Asheville Cabins on trip advisor-that's where I found them. Nestled in the woods only a couple of miles from Asheville. Botanical Gardens (which are beautiful) is only minutes away. 5 minute drive to Biltmore. Right o0ff of Blue Ridge Parkway, as I said.

Beautiful cabins, secluded, each has a nice deck and hot tub. Cabin we stayed in had plenty of room, 2 bedrooms, a bath, and a huge kitchen area plus a fireplace in living room. Could not have asked for a nicer stay.

Thirsty Monk...was there this past Friday and they brew a couple beers that they change up all the time. Great 2 story bar that serves other beers not just their own.
Was there last Friday as well.

Asheville is pretty good at weeding out the substandard food venues there.

The Drum Circle was indoors Friday night, it will be indoors until next April.

I just moved to NC a few months ago but here is my list so far: -Highland -Wicked weed -Thirsty Monk...was there this past Friday and they brew a couple beers that they change up all the time. Great 2 story bar that serves other beers not just their own. -Green Man -Lexington Avenue-great beers and good food -Sierra Nevada-heard the place is awesome...haven't been yet -One World-cool set-up in a downtown basement but I personally didn't like any of their beers but I'd give it another shot
I thought Asheville Brewing Company was good too.

Don't go to Sierra Nevada without first prioritizing the local breweries.

Eh, Sierra Nevada was better than pretty much all of them, as far as the venue goes.

Wicked Weed, Highland, Lex Ave, & Green Man would be the others I would go to, but if it was just one, I'd go to Sierra Nevada all day long.

Tupelo Honey Cafe was a really good spot I went for dinner, though I know this isn't an Asheville exclusive restaurant, I just don't have one anywhere near me. It was very good. Early Girl Eatery was a good brunch spot. The Porky Breakfast Bowl was pretty dynamite. Got a side of the country ham and mixed it in there, damn tasty.

ETA: Other than that, you can really just walk around downtown Asheville, it really isn't all that big, very compact, and you can find a bunch of cool places.

I don't doubt that because of all the money they have behind them.

I just place a lot of value in that if you're in Asheville, you should check out the breweries that put it on the map as a beertown.

If I was in California I would be hellbent on visiting Sierra Nevada

Pisgah, Green Man, Highland, etc. Others have suggested some good stuff.

I'm not putting down Sierra Nevada, love their beer, but I just think you're not getting an authentic Asheville exposure if you focus in on it at the expense of others

I've been here three and a half years now and I had no idea they had an indoor drum circle. I thought it ended in late August every year. Where do they usually have it? ETA Black Mountain about 15 miles east of Asheville down I-40 is well worth the visit also. Pisgah Brewery is there. Pisgah pale ale is an outstanding beer.

I stayed at the Grove Park Inn two years ago and wasn't impressed. I know it's an old, historical hotel, but the rooms were really dingy (moldy tiles, water stained wood trim, and a lot of dust in the corners). Also the restaurant wasn't good- my party ordered four steaks and had to send everyone back TWICE due to being overcooked.

You may have stayed prior to our $25 million renovation and acquisition by Omni Hotels and Resorts. I have worked for the Omni Grove Park Inn since October 2013 and would recommend it to every single person who considers visiting Asheville. If you have any questions about the area let me know.

I moved here for the beer and the scenery, neither of which has let me down.

Edit: Wicked Weed is, by far, my favorite spot in Asheville. Come thirsty!

FWIW the Aloft downtown is a great hotel.

Stayed there this summer. For what it was, I thought it was probably the most overpriced place I've ever stayed. It's location is really about the only thing I thought it had going for it.

This is like going to Chicago or New York and eating at Hard Rock Cafe. Asheville was 'Beer City' many many years before Sierra Nevada came to town. I'm sure it's nice and all but it's missing the authenticity.

Aloft is the place to stay downtown if you're not on a budget. Another cheaper, decent option is the Four Points Sheraton. I think it used to be previously shitty but has been recently renovated. Much cheaper than the other downtown options and you can walk to everything fairly easy. Sub 10 minute walk to Wicked Weed/ Oramge Peel and all that

One of my favorites. Had my first at the Town Pump several years ago. Really glad they're canning now, so I can take some home.
