Do you really believe chimpanzees have the ability to either save or destroy the world like we can? How about airplanes? Do they build them?
Seriously?
Sure, some things God placed in nature are superior to the flawed nature we have ourselves.
Ants for example. Bees. Way more organized and efficient than us, yet still just bugs. I see things like that and just say wow, if God can make ants that organized, imagine what it's like when he rules us again!
To each their own though.

so you're basing you belief in it simply because it's older and it also "makes more sense" to your admittedly feeble mind comparative to that of God?
Fair enough. Like I said, we all place a bet on John 14:6. Sooner or later we all learn if ours was the correct bet.
So let me get this straight... our minds are useless when it comes to understanding the all-knowing mind of god and yet you know enough about it to have to correct answer. That makes a lot of sense.

I've shared it already. Long post in the creepy story thread I think.

Did I say they did any of that? I said they are smarter than some human children. I'm asking you if that means they are made in his image too.

Maybe smarter than your children
It's a joke

Look, I thought you said you didn't mind a civil debate. Now you're just being an arse.
Are you going to refute my point or not?
Nice edit.

Compare a chimp to a child at the same point of their growth curve and I'll be shocked if a chimp is anything other than stronger.

I've already stated I cannot comprehend God or his creation. Nobody can. The only answer I claim to know is actually quite simple. That is I'm a wretched sinner, born into sin, and incapable of anything but more sin. Only by accepting that Christ is my savior can I hope to be saved from the judgement I deserve. I'm not close to perfect, I'm not better than anyone nor am I above anyone. My righteousness is like "filthy rags" in the eyes of God. That's the only answer I'm sure of, past that, I'm not certain of anything.

but only when it is convenient, right? knowingly sin all you want and live the life you want to, but claim the beliefs you posted and apologize occasionally and on sundays.
you must be baptist.

Certainly. That's not the point I'm making. I'm asking what is true. Is it:
1) some great apes (besides humans) are also created in god's image because they are also capable of free will, understanding, and consciousness at levels greater than some humans, or
2) that human children are not yet fleshing out the "image of god" thing until they develop that reason, free will, etc.
You're essentially saying that reason, logic, and conscious thought prove we are made in the image of god. I'm asking when that quality attaches.

I feel sorry for you. I'm actually a pretty decent dude and am capable of all sorts of generous, kind, and respectful things all on my own.

Except this bet isn't binary. When one is placing bets wouldn't it make more sense to include all the world's religions?
I mean what gives weight to the bible over say the Quran? or the Torah? or any other world religion besides the simple fact that you were raised to believe the Christian bible is truth?
Does not the Muslim have "Absolute truth and subjective experience" that convinces him that he is right? I would imagine for every "I've personally experience Jesus in my life" there is a "i've personally experience Muhammad in my life".

Oh, it has to be instantly upon conception I guess.
God tells us we can learn important lessons from kids. He says we should learn to trust and love as they do. We should actually mimic their strong faith.
See how easy it is for a kid to believe in Santa?

Save your pity and your condescending self righteous attitude of thinking your better than me or anyone else for that matter. I'm quite capable of all those things as well and do each on a daily basis. It's just I realize that as my Creator, those attributes in me come from Him.

So it's really not about the consciousness or reason thing. It's about just being human. Ok.

Sure. Then he also tells us to not be like kids too.

You mean how easy it is for a child to believe in an entity that knows all of your good and bad deeds, will reward you for good deeds, is generous and benevolent, and entirely fictional?
Believe me, that fact is not lost on me.

Not looking down on you at all. I just feel sorry that you feel that way.

I used to think very closely along the lines you lay out

Your expectations of an afterlife are based upon and limited to the confines of existing science, as you or we vaguely understand it.
I don't think it is going to go down like that. But that is a personal belief based more on gut feeling and belief than the science you rely upon.
Based purely on existing science, I personally don't think we should exist, at least in our current form. There is no scientific reason for our current state of consciousness.
