Yep, like with fire damage.

It could be. I just think the fact it didn't throw the belt or make any squealing belt noise that it's water that caused it. I could be totally wrong won't be the first or last time that happens

Im saying the compressor could have locked up and the clutch spun and got red hot and eventually snapped. After metal gets really hot, it rusts very easy.

If the rust is only in that one spot around the compressor then that would expain it.

I'll take it off after work tomorrow and see. I'm replacing the dryer and the metering valve as well. I'm going to capture, but not re-use the R-134. I'll cut the old drier up and see if I see anything in the filter media.
Not going to replace the condensor though, since pressure levels are good, I know it's still full of refrigerant. I too also think it's likely the compressor is locked up, but I haven't taken the belt off yet and spun the inner shaft. (I don't have a good angle to it, until I drop the compressor from the mounts)
They go to Daytona Beach a lot in this car. No real bad frame rust, or anything else, suspension is clean, etc (usually that rusts first from high water)

Does look friction caused, but that would of had to have been a very loud squeal and I would think the belt would give out quick.
