What are some common items that folks claim they have the best of?

I know when I was a kid it was full size pick ups and in the early 00's everyone thought they had the best television on the block.

Just about anyone I talk to that has a generator claims they have the best generator money can buy.

What are some things your social circle claim to have the best of?

Material things are fun, but they are just things.

Right now, the engine I have is pretty good just b/c I haven't slung the guts out of it.
Yet.

You were badasses. Still don't understand why VHS won out.

My mom still has hers. It was better than VHS. I need to read up on why it failed.

I read somewhere that porn chose VHS so that's why it grew.

Probably true. That's what happened with Blu-Ray.

Sony tried to greedily corner the market and wouldnt allow other manufacturers make the Beta Max .
VHS was more universal, thus became the everyday tape player / recorder for everyone

I just read that the first beta types were only an hour. Sony was stubborn to this. Everyone else believed that you needed to be able to record a whole American football game. And VHS players could be made more cheaply.

Betamax 1 maxed out a 1.5 hours recording time. Not long enough for some movies although the quality was superior.

Betamax 2 could go to 2 hours recording time but then the quality was less than VHS.

Licensing was a factor but the cassette size (and associated capacity limitation) was the ultimate downfall.
