re: Committee tells Ole Miss to get rid of "Ole Miss", symbols, and change names

Dan Jones and these politically correct pussies can go frick themselves and shove this report straight up their arse if they think we're giving up half that. How about whole we're at it, lets bulldoze every building on campus that was around in the James Meredith era, and ban chicks from wearing revealing clothes since fat chicks may be offended.

There should not be a building named after James Vardaman. There's nothing to justify that.

That's my only real issue here.

I called it a while back that they would phase out ole miss and transition to just mississippi and eventually they will be the rebel black bears and then just the black bears. its all a slow process

Nah, bears would piss of PETA. We can't have that. How about we just become the Raging Pussies? I'd say it would be appropriate, non offensive, and fun for the kids.

Wow. I certainly wouldn't want a building named after him at the school I attend.

I did mail runs on campus when in college, and I've never even heard of this building, and it was my job to know every building on campus. Are we sure this is even still a building, or are we putting up more white guilt simply because a building was once named that.

My $0.02...

It is unfair to punish our current generation for crimes and atrocities of generations past. The current students and administration at Ole Miss have nothing to do with Ole Miss the plantation... Most people don't know or care of the origination of the Ole Miss name.

I doubt that anyone that wanted to go to Ole Miss because that place used to be a plantation that abused and exploited slaves.

If people are so sensitive about slavery, a bunch of city and town names must change... Since most cities in the south and south eastern coast are built because of slave labor.

How about the Hitler Art Building? I wouldn't want to be labeled as a pussified society.

Ok, that building I'm not even sure is used anymore. Never entered it. Just bulldoze it for all I care since not shite goes on there.

honestly most of that seems pretty reasonable.

the only thing I would take issue with is potentially removing the Rebels name and certain symbols (which would obviously have to be done a case by case basis).

Even then there are probably a few things that should be done away with or at least put into a different context. Perhaps a hall of history type building or something that gives a serious examination of the changing ideals and beliefs in the state throughout the decades. That way you would get to keep certain statues etc and use them to better educate the students on local history.

I could even understand moving away from Ole Miss purely from a marketing perspective. Having multiple names can be confusing to people unfamiliar with the school and makes it more difficult to properly promote the school.

It really shouldn't require a "committee" to rename that building. I know where it is and I dont know anyone that had class in it. I thinks it's just offices. But yeah, Vardaman sounds like a douche.

They should name the building after me, IMO.

probably the best solution since it seems useless. The story/report definitely made it sound like some major location on campus

Pretty sure Ole Miss gets a better response than any title that directly associates us with Mississippi.

Go back to the Big 12 then.

Yeah, let's spend 8 million dollars of our tax paying money on that. That would be such a worthwhile investment that will do so much.

We Are Ole Miss. No one is fricking confused by it, and the people that are think that Mississippi State is our proper name since no one knows who the frick they are. This seems more like State's problem and not our's.
