Coinstar Machines-Trashy vs Not Trashy
Posted on 3/10/15 at 9:52 am

So, my daughter had two full piggy banks. I decided to take this change to a coin star machine to turn this into cash. We bought her a Kindle Fire Kids Edition with the 150 bucks that she had in change.
I felt extremely trashy walking into the store with two large coin bags in either arm.
So OT, Trashy or Not Trashy?
TIA

Trashy, go to the bank. They do it for free.

I used the coinstar in college. Would usually get over $100

Before we go on vacations, we have the kids take their piggy bank change and cash it in and that's their spending money for stupid souvenir crap. But we take it to the coin counting machine at our bank, 'cause there's no charge for them to do it there.

I'm going to go with not trashy, because money is money.
But I get it, my bank offers those change machines and doesn't charge a fee, so once a year I get rid of all my change and deposit it into my account. I hate doing it because it makes a lot of noise.

Do it about once every few months. Not trashy. What am I supposed to do? Just throw all my change away.
I'll tell you what is trashy...counting out exact change at a cashier counter while everyone behind you waits in line. Right up there with pulling out a checkbook, trash!

ive used it once, cashed about 450$ and used it for spending money on trip to Italy.
If I used it for crack from money I found on the ground then that would be trashy

I wanna know what bank you go to that has a coin counting machine. In all my 25 years I have never seen this. They usually would tell me I have to roll it up first. frick that noise.

I haven't been in my bank in years. I do everything from home or the atm. Had no idea they had these. Now I'm wondering if that makes me more or less trashy.

Walking inside the bank is trashy.

Cause counting and rolling change isn't worth trying to save the small fee they charge.
Do banks count it and roll it for free? I don't think mine does. I know they will cash it out for free but not roll it.

I've used it, but I really can't think of any bank that won't just take bulk coins these days.
I bank with a Metaire based local bank and they are great with it. They take coins at the window and count them up. One time I brought in rolled coins and the first thing they did was break all the rolls, so I stopped even bothering with counting them.
No fees, straight to income tax savings account and it helps, turning in coins to save for paying taxes.

If you cash out to a giftcard, there are no fees. I've used it once or twice and received amazon giftcards for the full value of the change I dumped into the machine.

Local bank in Boston. It was the first time I had seen this as well. Nice benefit though. You bring in your change and it gives you a slip for the amount that you then bring to the counter for the bank to deposit.

The Capital One branch downtown had a machine in the lobby that would count it for free (if you had an account). It's been a while, but the last time I was in that branch (old location) the machine was broke and it didn't appear that they were interested in fixing it anytime soon. I haven't been in the new location to see if they replaced it.

You don't have to.

My bank will count it and give me cash. You just walk up to counter with the coins. They take it to the back and put it in the counter. No idea when and who rolls it.
