Co-worker's Ebola opinion

Lost my shite with this lady this morning. She actually said it's a good thing that Ebola has "hit" the U.S. because " now it will be cured because there is money for curing diseases when white Americans are threatened but not for black Africans". Could not believe that she (white middle class 30 something soccer mom btw) found a way to make Ebola about race.

I see her argument as more socio-economic than race. Obviously U.S. has more money than African countries. Saying that we can spend more money to cure ebola than countries with majority black populations doesn't make her statements racially-charged

It will still continue to be a problem in Africa because they don't have infrastructure or money or really even qualified medical professionals. You think Africans stopped dying from AIDS once Magic Johnson got it?

Maybe we should take this general plan into action (not just "black Africans" though)....Let's solve our own fricking problems before we spend zillions on every other country's crap!

Heart Disease - not caused by virus or bacteria
AIDS - Good one, but affects developing world much more than US. US HIV patients (with money) have access to much better drugs than 20 years ago.
FLU - Vaccines available, low death rate.

Would have agreed had her use of the terms "white" Americans and "black" Africans not been used. While we're talking socio-economic, let's suppose her theroy is true, isn't that discounting the W.H.O. and all their resources? They allegedly garner the top minds and international funds?
