Some dude is wasting company time complaining for what he knows is inappropriate and I have the problem?
Um, yeah.
Um, yeah.

All your "wonderful" information will definitely get the OP fired. Regardless of your opinions on race, the OP is stupid for what he did and unprofessional to say the least.
Would I take it personal? frick no, I have a very good sense of humor and would have laughed and said something back. However, OP should have been smarter about this. Any white guy, especially in a position of power where people may already dislike you, should not make a choking gesture towards any black guy or anyone really. HR will now see him as a liability that in the future, could be seen as someone who may get a lawsuit brought on them bc of being just, well, stupid really.
But keep in your feelings and giving him misinformation about what he could do. He should just be lucky the guy didn't say he considered the gesture a death threat.

Sounds like your direct report is a whiney, racist, bitch. But sadly in the Brave New America this will be spun faster than a centrifuge.

Yep, much like P.Manning did when the Saints beat him. Funny how the pundits lauded Manning for showing the heart of a dedicated warrior [which is why he rec'd little grief about his actions].
To the OP: I know you know what racist actions are. Why are you asking here? IMO that was a joke, plain and simple. If you honestly only did what you stated, I don't get why your boss sent you to HR.

The only little bitch in this thread is you a-hole.
What's your fricking problem dude?
99% of the people on here think it's no big deal and that the other guy overreacted, except for you and your holier-than-thou attitude.
Go frick yourself a-hole.

quote:Yeah, it's really stupid to have any conversation with a black people at work OP. You should only speak to black people about work subjects only. You must walk on eggshells around them so their fragile egos are not offended, otherwise you'll be branded a racist, fired from your job, and become a social pariah. Email is the preferred way to speak with them about work related issues, but make sure your HR department proof reads it first so they can remove any micro aggressions that you almost certainly will include.

Lesson learned.

I thought Cam missed a great opportunity to repair his image and silence a lot of critics. Think about what the narrative would be if he'd taken the time to give props to the Broncos, recognize how awesome it is that Peyton Manning's last game might be a Super Bowl win and make a Tim Tebow like declaration to Carolina fans about fighting even harder for a championship next year. He could have then taken a handful of questions and politely excused himself. Instead, he chose to be a douche.
You can't act like an a-hole then when people don't like you blame it on race. I've seen people compare that interview to shite Belechick does all the time. Fair enough. But Belechick is first class douche bag too and his only excuse for people not liking him is that he's a first class douche and he knows it. He doesn't have a race card to play even if he wanted to.
Lets not be naive either. I'm sure there are plenty of people who hate Cam and others simply because of the way they were born into this world. And if you're a minority out in the world doing everything right or are simply minding your own business and somehow someone is finding a way to marginalize you or treat you unfairly then stand up for yourself. But how on earth does that dude think that's what's happening to him?

It's funny how childish you are. Instead of having a simple discussion in which people share different views, you have basically just been calling people names and talking shite. I could just imagine you in real life since you seem to be good at internet shite talking.
Anyways, your post just shows you probably have no clue about working in a professional environment. So let me rephrase what I've been saying for you.
Regardless of work environment, if you're in a management or above position, it's very idiotic to make that gesture. If you're in a construction field, which you appear to be bhtigerfan, this type of behavior may be a little more tolerable but can still get you axed quick, especially if you hardly know the dude, which OP said. If you're in a professional environment, this would never be tolerated, unless between friends but even then if someone who is above you or from HR sees you do it, they can take it out of context and you still get in trouble.
But keep on defending stupidity, which is common in America now days. And keep belittling people bc they don't share the same view points as you. It's ok, I was 13 years old one time too.

I wonder how HE would have acted had Carolina won??????? He would have come in and been very difficult to deal with.... Some people take this shite way to serious.... I will never forget this chick at work who hates LSU threw her newborn sons brand new LSU outfit in the trash the night LSU beat OSU for the title... EVERYONE at work made fun of her about how immature she was acting. She deserved it and this guy is acting like the bully in the school yard that got beat up.... It will be hard to go on dealing with this fool day after day....

I was very careful today not to touch on that subject, as I knew society is pretty divided along racial lines on this game...
if you couldn't figure that out, you probably don't need to be supervising folks...

It's assholes like you who make a big deal about someone doing a choke hold on themselves (which every person with a functioning brain knows what it means) and turn it into a perceived threat. You, are part of the problem with corporate America where people have to walk on eggshells and can't joke with each other at work.
And I'm not in construction Mr. High and Mighty, I'm in O&G.

You must of missed the post I said I would have thought it was funny. Go ahead and keep talking shite on here, whatever you have to do to make your life better buddy.
BTW, my opinion is based on what you said - it is the world we live in and that's why he needs to be careful. Still wouldn't be tolerated in a professional environment. You don't go to business meetings seeing people putting towels over there heads and making choke signs.
Oh, your oilfield trash, I should have known by your childish attacks and poor grammar, you little pussy bitch you.

Oilfield trash? Wow, never been called that before. I guess since I'm happily married, have a nice home (not a trailer), great credit, savings, retirement and a college degree that I've never been called that before.
But anyway, I'm not offended. But it does show what kind of person you are, that you look down upon others in an entire industry because you have a white collar office job. Congrats to you Mr. King of Corporate America. You can thank me next time you drive your Prius for helping supply your gas.
Oh, I do drive a truck though, but it's not jacked up or have truck nuts. Do I still qualify as oilfield trash?
And please point out my poor grammar to me (like I did for you) so I can learn from my mistakes. BTW, it's "you're".
Thanks for playing douchbag.
