I'd just be happy if Louisiana would change their cultivation laws, and remove the mandatory minimum sentence. 2-3 plants in your closet shouldn't be punished with time in Angola.

Right - 5 years mandatory for cultivation of ANY amount. The most draconian cultivation law in the entire US.

Love how the board is blindly ignoring the elephant in the room and talking about "Louisiana".

That's insane. Is that a relatively new mandatory sentence or old AF?

Louisiana isn't bad as far as possession laws are concerned in the south. Under 2.5 pounds is a misdemeanor (though they'd still probably push for distribution) and no difference between flower vs concentrates.

Florida is the only state in America where less than an ounce is a felony, sms any amount of concentrates are a felony. It's some serious bullshite.

Well, if Jeff Sessions had his way, he'd raid every dispensary on his first day as AG. I'm just hoping trump is so much of a business man, and a guy that partied in Manhattan in the 80s that he won't let it happen.

Why don't these numbers jive?

$1B in sales. 12.9% sales tax. and only $50M in taxes collected?

I met a guy who ran weight to Kansas city from illegal grows. They're not mailing weight. They drive it over with non Colorado plates. The only thing that gets mailed is small amounts.

Medical isn't taxed. Also, it's not including sales tax and local taxes. It's just the reefer tax. It's also not including income tax from business and employees. Do the total generated tax revenue is much higher.

If Texas did this, we'd be raking in the tax money.

Is it supposed to be coming up in Louisiana for voting to legalize or not sometime next year?

I thought JBE mentioned it recently as a possibility

understand that LA state government has a stigma of corruption, but even if the law is specific how the tax revenue has to be allocated?

There would be so many people skimming those coffers it wouldn't be funny. Kickbacks, government contracts, hiding monies in the freezer. You name it, LA politicians will do it.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure sales tax is done periodically and not month to month.

So they haven't collected on all of that 1b yet

There it is. CO and co. are probably crapping their pants right now. They have a great thing going that could all be undone if Obama's 2013 Bill which states the Feds will not get involved with marijuana gets nixed. Trump himself isn't the threat to this issue. He seems apathetic at worst. It's the cronies he's appointing.

I haven't noticed that, like with alcohol. I want to say no, mostly because the weed is so strong and fresh, you're gonna get high as frick no matter what.

No - well, not in the traditional way these things happen. Every state that has passed a measure thus far has been via signature driven voter referendum. Louisiana has no such mechanism for voter driven referendums. The law would have to come from a sponsored bill. No doubt a bill will be introduced in the 2017 session, but it won't even make it out of committee. Hell, the 2016 medical bill that included no smokable forms barely made it past the final vote.

How could you live with yourself. You would be putting hard working Mexican immigrants who fled to America out of job.

How white of you.
