This course is going to be a major money pit. And the people who are going to foot the bill are taxpayers

Stupid dog park? That dog park is great. I have been a member for several years and there are always a lot of other dogs in there. Everyone that uses it really enjoys it. Like I said earlier, City Park is doing 10x better now than ever before, ask any old timer.

You do realize that for over 100 years City Park was mostly about golf right? We wouldn't be having this discussion if it wasn't for Katrina and there would still be 4 courses. I understand your concern of it being a drain to tax payers. However, if this course is built right, and with this architect that is almost guaranteed, it will be a money maker.

It's very surprising that people would rather a blighted area that is very sketchy and brings in nothing to the city.

I don't think just because someone is against the golf course that they want to keep the area like it is today. I'm all for designing the area. The old course is severely overgrown and needs some work.

I know who Rees Jones is. I'm a landscape architect and golfer and I think his firm designs beautiful golf courses. Doesn't change the fact that a golf course is a golf course and nothing else. Seems most people in this thread think the only ones against the course are east coast hipsters from the Bywater.

Technically, they are taking less land than what has historically been used for golf.

A nine hole championship golf course?
Why would anyone want this?

my concern is that you CAN'T build a championship golf course on NOLA terrain... it's too flat. guess i'll have to see it to believe it

Individual courses might be suffering but New Orleans is a travel destination that only has one real golf option for tourists. Its a good idea to put it there.

I could go either way but have any of y'all been over there since Katrina? Pretty fricking cool. I'm not sure this would interfere with the nature walk which holds the heightest natural point in the city.

Eta: this development would frick with my perch spot too.

The land they are using has been golf courses for years up until Katrina.

Step 1: get dirt from somewhere else

Step 2: use bulldozers and other machinery to mound it up in strategic places

Step 3: ?????????

Step 4: Profit and piss off hippies

If this is why someone opposes it then I can understand the reservation. I believe this course would be very successful and profitable if it is built right, but of course there is no guarantee.

City Park has so many great improvements planned for the next couple years. I along with everyone that lives in the area should be very excited. It will be great for tourism and property values in the area. The South Course will remain unoccupied and this new championship course will just take up the old east and west course. Still plenty of land for City Park to develop all these other projects that are in the works.

Master Plan: City Park 2018
