Exactly what would she have found at the time that would have led her to NOT sign off on the permit for that day?

We will never know since she didn’t bother to show up and at least take a look.

City inspectors not doing what they are supposed to? Who could have guessed?

Honestly I always assumed this to be the case.

Aside from that I still believe there to be serious design flaws, so the presence of an inspector wouldnt have helped IMHO.

I’m surprised the city didn’t catch this and fire her already? Even corrupt departments have leadership they don’t want to be blamed. Auditing the vehicle gps would have taken 5 minutes and they could have placed her on leave for a review at worst to CYA.

As long as the structural engineer of record accepted the deck, the city inspection is merely a rubber stamp.

So, nothing.

I guess I'm asking what Should she have been looking for?
I'd bet stuff like this goes on all the time with general contractors in the pockets of building inspectors.

There was a story posted on here around when it happened that said the beams were too far apart and you could tell from down at the street it wasn’t right. Not sure how valid that story was. But that made it sound like even a cursory inspection might have helped prevent the situation.

I'm sure the City has a canned response.

Couple of interesting points:

1. Did the construction site require a sign in/sign out to access the work area. Pretty common for inspectors by the GC, but very hit and miss on how well it is enforced.

2. Does the City mandate the use of City vehicle by inspectors for all work activities? If not, fully expect the City to claim that Tweeter was using her personal vehicle. Even if not the case, any evidence that she was using a company vehicle has already been scrubbed. The City takes a baby hit, and then the Major makes it policy from here forward that City vehicles are required for City business.

They have big enough people though judging from that pic of Julie

She was using a city vehicle. She went to her house for a 2 hour lunch on one of the days she claims to have inspected the site

Exactly.

The inspector's job is to verify the completed and progressing item of work complies with the contract drawings and specifications.

If the design is defective it is going to get built defectively regardless of the presence of an inspector.

you assume that it was her in the vehicle

Could be a co-worker that is also a roommate. Could be a hookup with a co-worker. We don't know.

Sounds like that should have been caught during the inspection of the building plans

And City Code and building code

not if observable codes are broken. The City might bury the infraction, but the inspector should report the deficiency.

Our inspectors catch all sorts of things that aren't done per design. Actual conditions in field conditions can require deviations, but those changes need to be analyzed and recorded.

But our guys actually do their jobs

At this point I have zero doubt the Mayor's temper tantrums regarding the City Council hearings and Hard Rocks open letter questioning the timeline of recovery were due to her anger that her coverup schrme is being thwarted. I doubt we have heard the worst.

An editorial mistake

She is the inspector that allegedly lied and skipped hard rock inspections

Should have kept her name private and requested info from the City

Lee Z better be correct, or he and Fox 8 will be fricked on a libel lawsuit.
