You're telling me, that the people who can't make dry wall that doesn't fail, is producing the power of 3 suns?

ETA: I'm sorry, 8,600 times the power of the sun, according to the Hindustantimes link.

You mean for the containment vessel? It basically uses giant fricking magnets to hold the plasma in the center of the vessel so that it doesn't come in contact with anything.

Am I the only one reading this entire thread in a Dr. Evil voice?

but ummmm, nobody told you?
so-called "fossil" fuels is one of the big lies
the earth makes the stuff! it's abiotic!
but you know
the love of money and all that is behind the lie

Oh, right. So the US can't possibly have sent people to space because we have school shootings, right?

I would bet that a massive portion of the Chinese don't either.

One has no bearing on the other.

Who's talking about the US. I'm talking about communist China who's entire economy is propped up on hyper inflated numbers that will surely cause an economic depression. The same China that is rife with poverty and famine, but it's state news boasts how it's a world leader....

I'm supposed to believe they produced and maintained the energy of 8600 times or 3 times (depending on your news source) the sun for 102 seconds?

FWIW, i did a little more research and am fascinated by stuff like this. And apparently it is possible to create this much energy, but it being sustainable is highly unlikely. For example, Germany produced the 80 million Kelvins for the length of a fraction of 1 second. Yet we are supposed to believe China sustained 50 million for 102 seconds? How do they sustain it? I don't buy the "well it's because of magnets" of how they don't disintegrate the containment unit. That's 1.5 minutes of 50 million kelvin or 90 million degrees Fahrenheit...

It doesn't pass the smell test.

Yea, nothing could go wrong with that.

Producing a temperature that is much hotter than the sun =/= producing more energy than the sun.

The entire article could be bullshite but you're way off base with your logic.

Uhhh,we are millions of miles from the sunand it radiates enough heat to burn us. And this thing is 3 times hotter?

It didn't say the entire energy of the sun, right? They just said they've created something that gets as hot in an exponentially smaller form.

That's a HUGE difference.

Not really the same principle, but maybe it'll help:

What's colder: A room with an ice cube in it, or a room with an iceberg in it?

This.

The only the Chinese could "invent" something is if they stole it here first.

Count me as a skeptic.
