Outer Space is a vacuum. We feel the Suns heat from 93 million miles away after going through minus 455 degree space. But the Chinese has created and contained a heat that is 3 times hotter than the sun. Ok.

I wonder what the net energy output is when you factor in what it takes to juice those magnets? I guess at that temp it's still good.

How's it theroetically supposed to be sustained?

China does a lot of things....and of those is overstating their qualifications.

There's mass in the heat transfer equations.

Sputnik & Yuri Gagarin called in to say "Hi"!

I fully realize and admit that I wouldn't fly on Aeroflot today but to summarily dismiss all things Russian is a bit hasty.

Yeah...temperatures way fricking hotter than what the Chinese are claiming have been obtained a long time ago (like in the 80s)

That's the problem with "hot" fusion, the temperatures and pressures involved are too great, hence the mythical "cold" fusion people have long speculated would solve the world's energy problems forever. Cold fusion happens at room temperature.

What element is on the periodic table that could withstand those temperatures in order to maintain that temperature for any period of time, much less 102 seconds?

At those temperatures any metal will be liquefied and become a gas almost instantly. Also, at that temperature increase the pressure within the reactor would be immense.

so what would contain the reaction?

Yeah, i doubt something the size of a basketball gym is creating, and holding 3 times the energy of the sun, and using magnets and cooling water to dissipate any radiant energy, meanwhile 93 million miles away 1/3 of what this chinese energy produces is warming the solar system, and produces enough gravitational pull to revolve 9 planets (pluto is real to me, dammit) around it's core.

But yeah, the chinese made 3 suns inside a large dishwasher to no ill effect...

The project, which cost 300 million yuan (approximately $37 million), is attempting to solve a fundamental problem that scientists have had since the Industrial Revolution; that of creating more energy from machines than the initial input.

That sounds like a bargain or something Tony Stark would come up with. So on the credibility scale I give it a 1.2

Not the super energy machine front, I assure you.

The Chinese are notorious for releasing wild claims such as these. This article is complete bullshite.

and Chinese. It's not like they've really had a movement to make everyone equal at the detriment of others.

If you show promise you are elevated, not "wait here for the rest of the class to catch-up"

Not to mention the gravitational pull of that energy source would suck the earth up inside of itself.
