I agree, but cops are some of the dumbest, meatheads, goons, uneducated pieces of shite on the planet looking for a reason to have the next great story to tell in the locker room. Why anyone feels the need to show pride, instead of just a little bit of submissiveness in order to move on with life is beyond me. It's really that simple.

No idea what the cops are saying to him, but I would imagine it was something along the lines of "stop or I'll shoot!"
With all of the black on black murder in Chicago (that mostly goes unreported), is it any wonder that the cops are a little on edge and skeptical? Not really helping their cause.

It didn't even look like this kid was even coming at the police. He was just standing in the middle of the street. This isn't close to Michael Brown.
Did he remove his hands quickly from his pocket with a knife that could be mistaken as a pistol?

Squeezing the trigger SHOULD be the last option. It apparently was the First option for that POS cop after verbal commands. If the perp had a firearm it would be different.
