If you go to any store that has savings cards, like a grocery store, and you haven't signed up for one you can put in your area code followed by 867-5309 and it works everywhere. Its the best trick I know! #lifehack

I started a thread in 2009 about Mr. Gattis doing this to me. It's embarrassing to read now.

if getting a license of some sort then you should and in sometimes need to provide the personal information.

But yeah that whole ask for your zipcode shite is annoying.

I tell them no--ya'll don't need all of that. just ring me up. I've had to apologize because the cashier appeared offended.

What bothers me is when they say "What's your email address/ phone number?" rather than ask "Can I have your email address/phone number". When they ask it the first way I am forced to tell them "I'd rather not give that information" instead of a simple "No" response. just grinds my gears when they ask that way.

I usually ask how is that information going to be used and what is the security used to store it? If they don't know (which they almost always don't) then I just say I don't give out that information without knowing the answer to my questions because there's too much hacking of personal information, blah, blah, blah.

100% of the time the response to me has been "Okay." No problems at all.

When you're being checked-out, look at the nametag of the employee. When they ask for an email address, make one up using their name. If Bill is ringing you up, give them billisahugedork@thisstoresucks.com. I've had them laugh and I've had them not even blink an eye. I'll just make up a zipcode or use 90210.

I just give a phony ph#. But if you carry your cell ph into the store, they have already sucked all the data off of it. Which is why I leave my cell in the car now.

I'm not going to assist them in their passive marketing agenda... So absolutely say "No."
