go to Hawaii because its a 5 hr plane ride and really inexpensive tickets from OAK or SFO.

My airfare from PHX to Hawaii was cheaper than what I typically pay to fly from PHX to BR. Hawaiian Airlines constantly sends me their deal emails for $300 airfare (nonstop)to Oahu

Well yea.. If you live in Zona or California then Hawaii makes a lot more sense. The person flying out of Oakland would have 12 hours on a plane to get to the USVIs so the inverse applies to yall. Why go to St John when Hawaii is just 5 hours away etc..

As far as natural beauty is concerned I would put them on the exact same level. Hawaii has a visit to Pearl Harbor which makes that local more interesting historically. I prefer beaches of the VI's though.

Looking for a recommendation on an location and resort for a caribbean getaway. I want a smaller resort, doesn't have to be all inclusive. Looking for good service, drinks aren't watered down and excellent food. Need a place where I can go for a week and relax without a million idiots and kids running around an all you can eat buffet. Don't mind off the beaten path, would be nice to have a cool town nearby to tour around. Money almost doesn't matter so any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance.

Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda, BVI.

You're welcome.

JL - Contact Derek @ (919)730-4569. You can take our boat called the Sognare in the BVI. We take 5 or 7 day charters. It would be a trip of a lifetime.

Sognare is a very good value with inclusive weekly rates from $8100.00 for two guests to $10,500 for a party of six guests. Three meals daily, alcoholic beverages, cruising taxes and permits are included in the price

Thats a really good deal. Especially if its a group of 6. Although that sounds cramped.

Wife & I just got back from our honeymoon in St. Lucia. We stayed at the Regency La Toc and visited the other two locations they have on the island.

The Good:

- All you can eat (portion sizes are small but you can order as much as you like)
- All you can drink (if you want premium, you have to request it; if you just say whiskey & coke they will give you well)
- Lots of excursions (Joe Knows Tour was highlight of our trip)
- Beaches are nice (at La Toc we had red flag warning all week but other Sandals on island were fine)
- Great staff, accommodating.
- Tons of poolside and night activities
- Plethora of different restaurants and bars

The Bad:

- A 1.5 hour drive from airport to any of the locations; the rolling hills and curves made me nauseous.
- Drivers like to speed around corners which brings you back to the above.
- Decide what excursions you're up for before you go and plan accordingly; there is only so much time I, personally, can sit on a beach or in the pool doing nothing but drinking.
- Also, with excursions, make sure you research them; we did horseback riding and instead of country side it was going through some dilapidated town to the beach below, staying there for 30 minutes, then going back up.
- Reserve your "required reservation" dinners ASAP to get ideal time; the two we did had us eating at 9PM.

All in all, we had a great trip. I think the time we were there (Monday to Monday) was plenty to do all we needed and could have probably cut it short a day and still been happy but we met great people from all around the world and drank/ate to our heart's delight.

Catman - It's a 45' Cat. It has 4 bedrooms. The rooms are on the small side, but not much time is spent in the room. The deck space is large with the boat being a Cat. With 3 couples you have plenty space. You can sail and see all of the BVI including Anegada. Like I said, it's a trip of a lifetime at a very reasonable rate.

One of the issues with going to a Carribean Island is transportation to and from another Island. You usually have time contraints due to ferry times or time limits on excursions. That's why chartering a Yacht is the best. It's like having a floating condo. You can sail or motor where you want and stay as long as you like. It's the only way to go if your considering the Virgin Islands.

Secret Bay in Domenica. Went for my honey moon a month ago, was completely blown away. Service was top notch, and food fantastic. Their culture is similar
to New Orleans. Read the reviews in trip advisor. That's where my wife found out about it. Only negative thing is there is no direct flights from Miami to the island. Had to go to Miami, then Puerto Rico, then Domenica. Other than that, it was beyond amazing.

St. John was awesome as well. We rented a villa/cottage this past summer off of VRBO with our own personal pool on a mountainside overlooking Chocolate Hole. 5 min from Cruz Bay by jeep for bars/restaurants. Most of the time we just grilled out and made our own meals. Rented a dinghy one day and went from beach to beach with a few in the morning with nobody else on them. Did a BVI excursion on the Bad Kitty which is a Speed Catamaran and went to 4 different islands in 1 day.

What about Barbados makes you want to go?

You can have a good time on any island, but I have no desire to plan another trip there.

I was set on buying property somewhere around Providenciales on TCI until I went to St John. Now we are torn between the two as the beaches at TCI are unparalleled and that includes Trunk Bay.

We are going to TCI in March and St John at the end of May. I doubt that either trip cements our decision. They are both wonderful in their own way although the interior of St John is much more beautiful than the scrub found inland on TCI.

Did you rent from Noah's Little Arks when you rented the dinghy? They're the little hut attached to the beach side of Beach Bar. A friend of mine owns that business.

This. Went to Nevis with my wife and you just described our trip. Stayed at Nisbet Plantation. There is a Four Seasons if thats more your style but take a look at Nisbet Plantation.

This looks like the kind of place i'm looking for. Can you give a little more info on the place? A few bad reviews on trip advisor but nothing outrageous. How was the beach and water there? Snorkling/diving any good? How was the food? It looks like drinks aren't included in the rate, were drink prices outrageous or reasonable?
