We stayed at Frenchmans on Tortola if you're interested. It was nice. Car rental is a must. We drove all over the island. Took a day trip to Jost, went to the Soggy Dollar, etc.

Friends of mine did the chartered sailing thing last year in the BVI. That one is on my bucket list for sure.

another question related to the topic.

Which islands are cheaper and/or easier to fly into?

Travel time vs cost can make a difference when planning a trip like that..

The USVI or BVI are amazing islands. St Lucia, Angilla,Antigua are nice as well. Dominica should not be overlooked. If you like to dive or snorkle then Roatan of VIs.

Least recommended island that you will get alot of people commenting on is Jamaica.

St John

/thread

VRBO.com and rent a condo or villa.

Day trips to Tortola, Jost and the awesome beaches of St John. Rent a skiff from Noah's Little Arks (shameless plug for a friend) and explore the island on your own from the water.

Addition:

You can check out the Blue Horizon Resort on Middle Caicos Blue Horizon Resort.

Note, this is a small fairly remote resort. It's a ferry ride to North Caicos and then a roughish card ride to Middle Caicos and the resort but you will be treated to the most beautiful little bay you've ever seen (Mudjin Harbor). There is one restaurant/bar at the resort (pricey) and a couple of other places you can drive to for meals. Go to Daniels and have the fried yellowtail snapper with black beans and rice and whatever beer they haven't run out of yet.

Really dont understand why people jump on a 11 hour plane ride to go to Hawaii when we have St. John just a few hours away.

Most people seem very anti Jamaica, but one of the best trips I've ever had was to the rock house in negril.

Tiny place, great service, good food, and beautiful.

I'm down to the point where every trip to the Caribbean now is St. John, Providenciales or maybe Roatan. There are still a few islands I haven't been to but these three are head and shoulders above everwhere else I've been.

I used to feel the same way, but I've also been to the Caribbean and USVIs many times, and at this point, I would rather spend my beach vacation times seeing other beaches of the world and that includes Hawaii.

Cause it's Hawaii, maybe?

And Jamaica is a great trip. Go to Half Moon Bay in Montego Bay. It's extremely safe and worth the value. Plus its in a beautiful location.

I go to Hawaii because its a 5 hr plane ride and really inexpensive tickets from OAK or SFO.
