You just killed that deer. Momma won't touch it anymore. Congrats. She was probably watching.
You should've deferred to Charles Darwin on this matter.

. Sounds tender.
Whip up some mashed potatoes, biscuits and brown gravy.
I hear that baby deer love to eat those things.

There's some info on wildlife rehabilitators: LINK
Please note, in Louisiana it is illegal to rehab a deer. I know these circumstances bring out the best in people and I'm pretty damn sure no enforcement agent will bat an eye at helping the poor critter during all this flood chaos but just know it is illegal.
There's a list of rehabilitators linked to the left on that page. I'm guessing they are pretty busy but they may be able to give you some advice.

My wife's boss runs a trophy buck farm. She helps with them sometimes if he is out of town and I've went with her a few times. Get powdered fawn milk and follow the instructions. They will drink from a baby bottle.

Get ready for the torrent of downvotes from the touchy-feely types on this.

The comments about having to wipe with a warm wet rag until it relieves itself are legit. It's instinctive and they will die before they go unless the mother is cleaning them. It's natures way of keeping them scent free while they're defenseless.

So are you the guy with all the tats that put the fawn on the leash?
Posted on 8/14/16 at 11:27 pm to A_bear
Feeding one baby deer should be a piece of cake. This guy had a whole herd.

no tats, actually live in san diego, in town beacusey dad had a stroke. just seemed like saving this guy was the right thing to do given the curcumstances

As others have said, just don't feed it regular cow's milk that a human would drink. There isn't enough vitamins/fats or whatever to sustain a deer.
