This seems odd. I can't imagine that a shitload of people just decided to start smoking weed just because it became legal. Seems like they were probably already getting high and driving.
I'd bet there are some other mitigating factors here. I wish the Feds would honor the constitution and let states have some power like our founding fathers wanted.

I listened to a story on NPR a few months back on how a study came out reporting that accidents involving alcohol had decreased by like 20% in Colorado and Washington State and how it was one of the unrealized benefits of making pot legal and all. Then the reporter went on to reveal that they dug a little deeper and found out that while alcohol related accidents had fallen by 20%, the "High" driving accidents had soared by almost double what alcohol had dropped at 36% and even more digging turned up the source of the original report was linked to a group lobbying for the legalization of pot and had interests in the sale of medical and legal recreational pot. Just a big shite show and another example of how you can not trust anything you hear.

Ehh.. Colorado has a 1.8% annual growth rate since early 2000's. Second fastest growing state. Numbers on accidents are a little skewed.

It's comparing the numbers to those of the bordering states. That's a terrible way to assess this. Anyone have a link to the actual study, I can't find it in any of the news articles and I would like to look at the methodology.

And likely the only one that had "significance."
I like how they throw in the line that the actual difference is 3% "but thats still significant." You can't use the word "significant" when talking about a study unless you provide the statistical details to explain how it is actually statistically significant.

Boulder population has increased 10% from 2010-2016.
Legalized in 2013, so not far off when you account for tourists & passer-thrus adding to the # of drivers on the road to nearly match that 14% stat

just so you know, opponents of legal marijuana will use this (and rightfully so) as a reason not to legalize weed in other states and nationally. Doesn't take much effort to not blaze and drive.

When I went to Colorado awhile back my rental car smelled like straight dank. The guy took extra care to tell me I wasn't allowed to do anything illegal in the car. It was a strange little rundown he gave me- never had that anywhere else. Maybe this was somehow correlated?

Consider this:
If they legalize it Federally then the accumulated idiots that abuse the system would drop to normal Colorado population and probability is the wreck percentage would decrease.
I heard Denver had to pass a law to allow people to piss in the streets.
Really vague here guys, don't tear this statement apart.
But this pigeonhole law is surely causing its own issues and should be distributed across the US.
THC, CBD is proven to be positive and it is time it is fully legal rather than a political issue.
Also, people are mixing the chemicals.
Making the Marijuana perception invalid and, No, I do not approve of mixing and making cocktails , thereby causing perceptions of the law to be skewed.
Considering the morons and habitual offenders that come world-wide to these states, a 14% increase is not significant.
Back to my very productive position in a non-safety sensitive job, have a great day.
