I don't know what the ltz tahoe's initial price tag was, but I know the base model was around around 28k in 2007, so I'd estimate the LTZ was around 50k loaded. The land cruiser was closer to 60k. Seems like the value depreciates the same to me.

This is coming from someone who owns a tahoe and will probably not own another.

Well that LC's price seems like an anomaly, as the next cheapest one was $38k, but the point still stands. Suburban LTZ were close to $60k if memory serves me (FIL has one and bitched about how much it was )

ETA: I can't find a number for the Suburban, but the Tahoe LTZ 4x4 stickered at $52k, so it should be at least over $55k for the burb.

Of course it is, but '15 suburban vs '15 LC the only true advantage I would see is that the LC is more equipped for offroad... You'd be hard pressed to find anything else it would be better at..

Is there any reason to buy an SUV? Why on earth do you need a big trunk like that without the ability to carry dirty, wet, stinky, or otherwise unsavory things.

The answer is no. SUVs are American garbage sold to us to pacify our "I'm sporty, I really REALLY am sporty!" Yea...you're really sporty.

Ummm, yes, I have about 50,000 reasons - namely dollars.

Since I don't go off-roading, I think I'll stick with the plan of buying a Kia Sorento for the wife in a couple of months and pocketing the extra $50K.

Resale for starters.

That's alot compared to their competition, and they hold their value similar to their more expensive counterparts. For example, 2007 Corvette costs $50k new, could be bought for $21k with high miles, or $25k with under 100k miles. So between 42 and 50% of its original value. A 2007 Porsche 911 costs $73k new, and could be bought for $37k with low miles. Again, 50% of its original MSRP.

So even though Chevy makes many more Corvettes than Porsche makes 911s, they hold value equally.

Yup. Owned a '91 and now I have an '04. I'll never sell it. DD it for a few years then I'll make it a toy. And buy another to DD. Or buy an old CJ7 or CJ5 or CJ8 and keep DD the TJ.

everyone keeps whining about the LC's price. I'm curious how many have considered buying a Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade

I've got 4 kids... a large SUV is an unfortunate necessity...

This. "I don't have $75k for a vehicle that will hold it's value for decades, but here is $65k for something that will be worth maybe $20k in 7 years."

For all the GM loyalist:

quote:

Automotive News reports the 2015s will cost roughly $1,000 to $3,000 more than their 2014 counterparts when the new SUVs go on sale early next year. The base price of a 2015 Tahoe goes up to $45,595, based on order guides they obtained. That's a $1,000 bump. P

If you're going to be in the market for one of the leather-lined, chromed-up Suburban LTZ 4WD versions, Automotive News says you should be prepared to pay $65,595 before options – that's $3,300 more than a comparable 2014 Suburban.P

So, small-but-vocal group of people who want a new Suburban or Tahoe and aren't regularly transporting businessmen or government officials, save up.P
