I got a Grand Cherokee Laredo that will die while I am driving. Nothing is wrong with the starter, you can hear it trying, but it won't start. We had the fuel filter and pump replaced and it still does this. I'll be driving down the road and it most often happens when I begin to brake then go again. I can feel it lose power steering and no longer accelerate.

It'll stay dead for a bit, get going and run for a week then die again.

Any help from the OT mechanics?

I say this as a Jeep Grand Cherokee owner. Cut your losses and buy another vehicle

Had the same issue with a Fore Escape awhile back and it was the throttle body. I replaced it myself and im by no means a mechanic. Check into that. Google your model and see if you get any hits on that.

I don't often post but this issue was to maddening to me I had to share what fixed it for me on my Mercedes. It was a faulty crank position sensor, basically telling the car the key was turning off when it wasn't. If they're positioned too closely to the engine (as mine is) the heat shielding isn't sufficient to protect them from the engine heat over time and they fail. It was a several hundred dollar part for me, which means on your Jeep it'll probably be $12.78 lol

My dad just had this happen on his jeep. They ended up replacing the computer in it.

I'll suggest it's your ECU

I replaced mine in my Cherokee. They can't diagnose it until it fully fails either generally. Mine was about 650 part and labor

I had this issue twice with different trucks.

It was the ignition coil both times.

Could just be the timing or plugs.

No need to replace the computer. Just download more RAM and you'll be on your way

I was looking into a previously posted problem. It mentioned low vacuum as a potential problem for sudden stalls.

If that is the problem here, then stepping on power brakes, which uses vacuum, would aggravate your problem.

If you have power brakes, look for a loose/disconnected vacuum hose.
