I've got 2015 Passat TDI SEL, filled up this morning and the gauge read as full, but the range was way off. Normal range shown after fill up reads about 750+. After fill up this morning it started out at about 490ish.

Drove up to Ville Platte this morning and the range has slowly climbed up to where it should be. Reading range of about 765, but gauge shows I've used 1/18 of a tank.

I've 16k + miles and this is the first I've seen this on this car. Any explanation? Sensor problem?

TIA.

its based off of your average MPG, so if you were flooring it everywhere or stopping and going a lot in the last day before the fill up the avg mpg would be down and you driving regularly today would make it go up.

meauxjeaux2 is an expert on this, he should be here soon to explain

I am sure that it calculates it based on the fuel mileage when you filled up. Say you bought 20 gallons of fuel and were getting 35 mpg then the DIC would read 700 miles to empty. Now you bought 20 gal of fuel this time but your mgp was 23 mpg then you would have 460 miles to empty. Did you make a lot of short trips or stop and go driving that differs from your previous fill ups?

Were you driving 100 mph instead of 50 mph?

Mileage brag. Mine says 320 on my tundra. It's based on average mpg.

The Mile Range only exists to allow you to see how far you can drive before really running out of fuel.

Speaking of Tundras... Do you notice that after a fill up your gauge drops extremely fast from full to 3/4?

Also, when my low gas indicator light comes on, I usually have 18-20 miles left on the range indicator. You ever test yours to see how far you can go? I've pushed mine to 55 miles from when the light came on. I've read on some Tundra forums of owners going as far as 75 miles before not wanting to risk it anymore.

The fuel range estimate is based on an average of the vehicle's fuel economy over recent driving history and the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

My fuel level sensor is no longer working. Anyone know how much that costs to fix? It just broke so I've been just monitoring my odometer to know when to fill up. I'm debating whether or not to fix it because I'll be getting a new car soonish.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread, but kind of related to OP. Sorry OP.

Mine is correct. It went to 3/4 around the 60 mile mark which is 3/4.

Reserve is something like 5.5 gallons. So when you hit "0" you have around 5.5 gallons left.

The fuel level sensors in the tank are purposely meant to slowly rise to keep your fuel gauge needle from constantly bouncing around. So in other words it takes a few minutes to show that the tank is actually full. Who's is why your mileage slowly shows improvement.

The one on my Aston Martin works fine, but my wife's Bentley is way off. First world problems I guess...

Who looks at the mileage range to empty while having a full tank?
It's only needed when the range to empty is like on 3 miles.
