I reside in North Texas and we have been in a drought status for quite some time now. We are now using recycled waste water and doing so has extended our available water for about three years, assuming nothing changes. We have been rationing water for about 2/3 years now .... we have lost trees and agriculture has been impacted. I hope the Texas legislature would stand up a program using water from the Gulf...I can only imagine what it would cost but droughts are no fun whatsoever....doing so, inv, would be a wise investment

They get a large percentage of their water supply from desalination... 40%?

It's not ideal, but it's probably going to be necessary unfortunately.

Spend less time worried about gay marriage, legalizing marijuana, blocking the stoppage of illegal aliens and more time worrying about water supply.

Where are you people reading about improvements in desalination technology? I try to keep up with that stuff on the regular, and was under the impression that desalination was a very long-term (20+ years at least) solution...

Israel Desalinization Plants

Try 80%, no way in hell they were having their population getting choked by the rest of crazies over there with the water situation.

Article also has some information about some projects that may happen in California. It dates last year, so these plants might be on the docket or if California didn't have their heads so far up there asses, they should have these plants locations already surveyed.

Without Silicon Valley and LA's space industry, the world would be a much worse place...

If that's the case I'm all in investing some money into salt water purifiers.

I'm mean for fricks sake they butt up to an ocean.

Just order beer at restaurants.

Problem solved.

I've been to places in Europe (namely Ibiza, a desert island) where water literally is more expensive than beer.

All the negative posts and comments about California's bad luck regarding their water problems is pretty sad. The fricked up thing about it is most of these comments could be coming from people that get offended by people that would make fun of Louisiana's hurricanes or Alabama's tornados.

Exactly. Same people that would get upset at other people saying "what idiot chooses to live below sea level and continue living there when it became one big cesspool??" I really do not get all the California hate from this board.

I find this ironic considering during the Great Depression all of the Oklahoma farmers migrated to California to farm there due to the dust bowl.

Now they're gonna run out of water and all the liberal whack jobs will migrate to the rest of the country

Me either. California has it's fair share of rotten politics, crummy areas to live and bad people, but no more than any other state in the union. Most of the people bad mouthing California have probably never been to the state. And the ones who have been there have probably only been to Los Angeles or the Bay area.
