About all you'd be able to see with a $100 telescope is the moon.

This, with mine I can see Jupiter's Galilean moons, the separation between saturn and it's rings, titan, and the red strips on jupiter if I get it focused just right on a good night. That's about it. and the occasional comet.

To be able to see that it's gonna cost ya around 600. I'm sure you can see a lot more with a cheaper microscope. Not to mention you can look at stuff during the day and it doesn't take you 20 minutes to setup.

I did see Saturn pass behind the moon once though, must admit that was bad arse.

Good telescopes are expensive. Without a good one, they are pretty worthless.

A modest dobsonian is great for a beginner.

No point in spending that much if it doesn't track.

$300-400 will get you an awesome telescope. Not so sure a about $120. Although you might find a decent used one for that. I'm sure plenty people but them and use them a couple times then stick it in the attic.

I had both microscope and telescope when I was a kid...niether was particularly expensive...

I can say that I absolutely liked (and still like) the telescope a lot more than the microscope...

Telescope is the obvious answer, when I was a surveyor I would set a total station up at night. It was 32 power, I could see moons around a planet, not sure which one. I wish I had a decent telescope

I want to buy one of these. I want to spend like $100-$120.

As others have said, that's a waste of money. Anything under a few thousand will not reward the expense.

Something north of $5K or so will get you hooked though.
