3oz was known after the fact. If they would have known there was only 3oz of weed would they have wasted their time? Possibly they did some buys from the house which they was dealing Meth or Cocaine. I dont know, me or you dont have the answers

OK OK. Read the article. There are cases supporting search of vehicle "under the control" of someone detained. Under The Control being interpreted as having the keys on their person. That being said, that's some weak arse legal reasoning in this case. I would have advised them to seek a separate warrant for the vehicle and/or document their reasoning in a report as to the warrantless search.
That being said, the commenter is still better off sticking to the other aspects of this story.
BTW. I am a pretty law and order guy and, if I was Command Staff at the PD, would never have approved SRT for this warrant absent extenuating circumstances. BUT you need to remember that the PD had a Detective killed a couple of years back on a "low risk" MJ warrant. Really need to legalize the stuff.

should it be 4oz...5?
The OT will hate on cops no matter what..."inspection sticker checkpoint here" "speed trap there" and all the responses are "why don't they go fight real crime" and leave the traffic offenders alone....now its 3oz of weed is not enough to serve a warrant. Can we get some consistency people?

But I think it should be legal, so everyone will say i am biased.
eta: and "real crime" is trap houses in N BR, murders, and robberies, not a few ounces of pot.

Couple this with the BRPD Officer who ordered the drunk guy to drive the car then shot him and you have one excellent department. Well done guys! Keep protecting and serving...

drug dealers never kill or rob people...right?

Where did I say that?

Not drug dealers who deal in small amounts of pot.

I guess technically you didn't I figured it was implied...you said sending swat was a screw up. I guess serving a warrant in other means would have been ok with you?

It's not that 3 oz of weed isn't enough to serve a warrant. It's that it doesn't require a SWAT team.

don't most LEO agencies use special task forces to serve warrants now?
Wouldn't these task forces have more training than the everyday cop?
I thought you wanted cops to have better training

Training at what? Breaching doors? No thanks.

I have 0 prblems with police serving a warrant.
I just think that police are using any and every excuse to use SWAT teams (read glorified infantry units) any chance they get, when they are supposed to be utilized during special circumstances. When you send a SWAT team in for 3oz of MJ, its bad police work and looks bad in teh public eye.
Posted on 8/13/14 at 10:52 am to GreatLakesTiger24
I don't think any amount of weed should warrant a fricking SWAT team.

If there's been 3 buys here as you supposed earlier, how do they not know what's inside?
