I check my pistol all the time. It's a pretty easy process as long as you have an approved case with a lock (doesn't have to be TSA approved). Make sure it's unloaded and I usually take the slide off the frame. DO NOT put magazines or any other functional parts of the gun in your carry-on or checked bag. Make sure it's all in the case. Holsters, mag holsters, etc. can be in your bag.

HI's rules are pretty strict. If you do bring it, you better do a lot of research.

There was a thread on here December of 2011, BR man, father of 11 kids, was murdered on a beach in Maui. He was there studying to get his RN license. I think that murder is still unsolved.

forgot about that, got to more to it, there are a couple of sizable "homeless" communities there, and of course there's a lot of drug activity there as well, could have been in the wrong place wrong time doing something wasn't supposed to be doing

I doubt it. Knew of this man. He was a hard core family man and very open Christian. Did not have much money with a huge family, and was trying to get into nursing, if I recall the story. I think one issue was that he didn't have money for living expenses, and was living in some type of shelter. Not sure on all those details, but I know there was no even suspecting of this guy doing drugs, or being involved in anything seedy.

I see, of course there are bound to be exceptions in any place, maybe he was infringing on some homeless dudes turf, but overall there's not much violent crime in Maui, or if there is they keep it pretty quiet, used to go there 4-5 times a month for work for a few years, even in Honolulu where violent crime is more likely to occur, the police station on Waikiki beach is only open M-F from 8am-5pm

I bet more tourists have have died there by falling and hitting their heads. Would you suggest everyone traveling there wear helmets as well?

Probably witnessed something or was trying to help somebody that had problems bigger than what he was aware of.

There's drug activity everywhere, and I would strongly assume that's exactly what happened. A freak accident thing sadly, but not enough to stir up anxiety that you have a good chance of encountering violence in the area.

You have to call weeks ahead and go through a whole bunch of shite to fly it. Usually you have to send it on another flight that leaves before yours. I wouldn't bring it to Hawaii tho. It's not that dangerous of a place.

I can guarantee you that you do not want to be carrying a gun in your carry-on bag.

They probably x-ray your luggage and will find it right away. Best guess is it would get stolen or confiscated.

You have to lock it with a non-tsa approved lock once tsa makes sure it is not unloaded

ETA: I'm not sure that you can put that inside a suitcase though

Howlie is haole- pronounced how you spelled it tho. don't wear a hawaiian shirt in Hawaii and you won't need a gun. Ladies (your mom) can wear hawaii looking sundresses but guys just look gay and are asking for trouble esp. if they are WHITE as Casper. Do not bring a gun. Buy small shampoos, toiletries, deodorant as typical flying. Bring SPF 30 sunscreen and a lot and wear it!!! It will be $30 a bottle there. Never hurts to buy dramamine car sick, air sickness- strikes when you least suspect. Esp your moms age :) Buy melatonin to sleep on the plane and calm.

That law doesn't apply to cc permits and Alabama is fully reciprocal last time I checked.

You don't need a gun in Hawaii unless you have an urge to hang with the gays and druggies on Hotel Street or try walking around Kaena Point at night. All weapons have to be registered with HPD and there is no carry allowed at all. Don't even bother trying... it's not worth it.
