I know an FBI agent who checks his service weapon with his bags when he goes on backpacking trips. He has to arrive at the airport about 2 hours before anyone else due to the paperwork hassle involved.

Not true I can fill out the paper work faster than a novice traveler can find their damn drivers license.

Well don't let these idiots fool you, it's good that you were thinking ahead to protect yourself. Every state in the union has dangerous pockets, and the fact that you wanted to protect yourself and your mom is admirable. The fact that you investigated it, weighed the pros and cons, then made an informed decision is admirable.

TX has something similar, weapon and ammo must be more than an arms length apart if in passenger compartment, unless they've recently changed it, lots of gun law changes being proposed right now

If I remember right for texas, if you can prove you are traveling from another state or something along those lines, you can have a loaded gun as long as it's not concealed in the vehicle.

I looked into it when going to houston for the LSU game and it's some loophole along those lines. Unless my state trooper friend was talking out of his arse

Ive never known anyone ever to need a gun while on vacation in Hawaii, my SIL vacations there annually and laughed at the notion that you might need one. If you really feel like you need a gun then you probably shouldn't go at all.

She's been before and told me about how poor the locals are and how much they hate tourists.

The Hawaiian economy depends on tourism big time. If the locals want food, shelter, and health resources then they'll welcome every dime they can get.

They don't hate white people as bad as you think they do.

I spent 2.5 months there going to local parties, beach get togethers and bonfires. Nobody ever dislikes me and I'm white as white gets.

I'm glad you started this thread bc I have a similar situation. I heard cartoon characters can get a little touchy feely so I'm gonna try to bring my pistol in Magic Kingdom.

yep, it's not as bad as people make out, I think it's much worse, or at least more evident in the USVI, but they need tourist $, they won't tolerate too much nonsense

This is true of most people everywhere they have been everyday of their life. I've never come close to needing a gun for protection for over 13,000 days in a row and that encompasses days spent in at least two dozen different states and a dozen different countries.

There was a thread on here December of 2011, BR man, father of 11 kids, was murdered on a beach in Maui. He was there studying to get his RN license. I think that murder is still unsolved.
